47RE Rebuild

First off, I've read through the 47re tech thread and post my reply there, but I know those sticky's dont always get checked by people with the answers so here it is:

My brother just blew is trans for the 5th time so he wants to do it himself, and he's now super computer savvy so I'm helping him out.

He has the usual upgrades (intake, worked pump, exhaust) and a super B, and has already stripped/cracked his input shaft and several other things totaling 5 transmissions. He decided he wants to rebuild it himself to save some money and to make it stronger especially since he's going to go twins and he drives it very hard.

I've come up with the following list of upgrades for his trans, what do you think:

Transgo skift kit P/N: TFOD/518.
Billet Input Shaft
Billet 1-2 servo
Billet front servo apply lever 4.2 ratio (OEM is 3.8)
Billet Accumulator piston
Billet band strut
Billet Anchor
Performance Rear Band Servo
Brass Impregnated Carbon Fiber Flex Band
low/reverse band
Sonnax pressure reg valve
Teflon Coated Pump Gears
Overdrive extreme duty Mega Spring
Clutch Pack upgrades: http://www.competitiondiesel.com/for...d.php?t=100577
-OD/direct clutch pack: OEM = 10 double sided. Upgrade to 48re 23 single sided plus one double sided clutch
-OD/Brake clutch pack: remove wider wave snap ring and replace reaction plate with 48re one. This allows 6 clutches up from OEM 5.
-Direct Clutch pack: OEM = 4 each. Use a used pressure plate from the forward clutch pack instead of reaction plate for more clearance and add stock .070" steels and .065" frictions and fit a total of (6) frictions and (6) steels.
-Forward Clutch Pack: OEM = 4 each. Upgrade = 5 each by purchasing a used forward clutch pressure plate and using it as a stepped reaction plate. The corner on the reaction plate needs to be ground down 0.030” all the way around, can use 1/8” metal cutting disc for angle grinder.

He's dead set on getting a suncoast M3ga-3 kit for his truck @ $1100. should he just get that or would it be more cost effective and stronger if he pieces his own together?

Also is there any benefit to upgrading his planetary gears? I'm not sure what he has in there, it's a 96 47re.

Thanks,
Mark
