New 6.7 - what oil & when to change
I've got a new 6.7 with the mods shown in my signature. Looking for 'real' advice on what oil to use and and what point to change it since it's brands new and all. Got 1200 miles on right now. Took EGR off at 900.
It's colder here, around 0 degrees would be normal this time of year. Gets to be minus 30-40 at times. Interested to know both winter and summer oil...if they should be different.
I know I could read the manual but I don't believe anything they say anyway, after spending hours removing all the junk they put in my way on this motor. The manual it still in it's unopened plastic packaging.

Run that break-in oil to about 6000 miles then AMSOIL Premium API CJ-4 Synthetic 15W-40 Diesel Oil (DME)
BTW can we see some pictures of this truck? Sounds gorgious.

I must say I like the look of it myself, let me wash it and I'll post some pics, it's right dirty right now.

Yes, leave the factory oil in until 6000. I know it sounds crazy to alot of people, but I like to change my oil at 5000, and I run rotella 15w-40. To me, $70 or so is so worth the extra protection, especially since your warranty is gone now! You are more than fine going 7500, maybe even more than that dependind on driving conditions. Like I said, I'm just a maintinance freak.

Does anyone have a list of grease points for my truck? - just ready to do my first oil change, rolled over 5000 miles

If it we're my truck I would run a standard 15/40 for a couple changes then switch to a synthetic later if you feel better about running it with synthetic. In about 20-30000 do your diffs and put in a good synthetic amsoil or such, the factory diff oil in these are ugly...

Interesting...can I ask why you would run straight 15/40 for a couple changes first?
Yeah, I'm planning to change all the fluids at some point.

about to change my oil for the second time now, first time I used the amsoil 5W40 since it was cold here but is there anything better about running the 15w40 vs. the 5W40 in summer? ...I bought enough 5w40 for 3 oil changes back in the winter...

No way I would change to a synthetic before 15,000 miles on the engine.
