New old truck

Picked up my first Ford diesel yesterday, 2001 7.3, 6 speed, 33k original miles. Engine / trans are 100% stock. Has 37s on 18s with 4.56 gears and an ARB front locker. Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.

In 2wd the brakes won't kill the truck in low gear. Can't imagine 4 low; haven't tried it.

I basically stole it; also parallel posting on PSA.

I have all of the stock suspension which will likely be going back on; all of the factory paint looks brand new on that. Guessing it was lifted the day it was purchased. Maybe do a reverse level or just drop it a couple of inches all around. Will need to throw some 3.73s back in which is fine. I'm pretty sure the lift that's on it is a Skyjacker, not sure what's needed to clear 38x15.5x16.5 Swampers, but that's what it had before the Fuel wheels. I got three of the Welds, not sure what happened to the 4th one...but it's going on Welds regardless; preferably Typhoons. Want to make it look like a truck from the early 2000s era. If anyone has some basic bolt-on stuff they want to get rid of, hit me up. Its not a bringatrailer.com truck by any means, but I also don't want to get too intrusive.

Spent all day cleaning up the outside and probably $100 worth of Adam's stuff...Inside tomorrow.Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.

Nice find! I’m definitely a Ford guy and damn that looks clean. It will look even better when you get it back to stockish ride height. Was it a local find or something you found online?

Want to do an 03 chrome or 05 Harley headlight swap, been reading up on that. Seems like Riffraff has the best option there for OEM parts.

Old lady and I spent about 5 hours yesterday on the interior.

Was able to track down the 4th Weld...previous owner gave it to his buddy to use for crossfit, so I hope it isn't phucked up beyond repair. Gonna try and pick it up Monday.

Also here's all (hopefully) of the stock suspension parts that came with it...I hope it's everything I need to drop it back down, or at least most of it.

Going to try and get a tint appointment this week, can't stand this fishbowl.

Local find. Previous owner took it to Carmax, they made him some bullshit offer. He works with one of my friends in the C130 simulation cockpit on the AFB. Told him to tell his co-worker I'll powerstroke a check and come pick it up sight unseen tomorrow.

I think I want it to sit something like this when I get it back down. It's slow, like snail slow, but I really enjoy driving it around. Once all of the wonder-steer is gone it'll be way nicer to cruise around.

Admittedly, I don't know shit about 7.3s. If this old bitch was an I6, it'd probably already have injectors, tune, turbo, and exhaust on it. Lots to learn on that front...

You will have to modify the header panel to fit the one piece lights as pictured. You will also have to cut off the bottom of the grill to clear the original bumper. Either do a chrome 03 grill and lights with no modifications, or a complete 05+ front end including bumper.

Another very popular upgrade is the 08+ towing mirrors. Direct bolt-on swap, with almost twice the visibility

03 stuff it is then.

I was literally about to order these, since I won't have lights or power anything in the mirrors; just wanted to keep it looking period correct. Are the 08+ tow mirrors that much better than the ones in the link (basic tow mirrors for the 6.0s)?

Appreciate y'alls help with my newb questions until I can spend more time reading and getting more familiar with this truck.

Leave it looking like an 01 7.3 classic.
Why do you want it to look like a 2005 6.0 truck.

Try and get used OEM if possible. Aftermarket mirrors are hit and miss for clarity and vibration. If you must go aftermarket,
I have had reasonable success with 1A Auto

Yes, the inprovement over the 99-07 mirrors is the difference between requiring a shoulder check or having so much visibility it is no longer required to shoulder check.

That's pretty cool, Roy. I wouldn't turn it down for the right price. Neat little truck.

Mmm some wide bullet holes and boggers. For me they are completely impractical and way too much money, but deep down inside I want a set for my truck just for cruising the beach once a year haha that last pic looks good.

Definitely 08 mirrors. I put a set on my 03 and they were night and day difference for visibility. I got lucky and swapped a set off a work truck before it went to auction. I also did the one piece headlight swap and wouldn't do it again with out swapping the whole front end. I still have the old clear headlights but they show some fading on the tops.

Damn just seeing this . Congrats Roy . I had a 01 F350 7.3 that i did some badic stuff to back in the day . Ts chip , ID mod , BB turbo , exhaust, intake, fass, 3 " front lift to level it with 35's

Just keep a spare camshaft position sensor from international and a 10mm socket in glove box.
