IF you were a true budget guy you would do your timing a little like this....

12v timing - Competition Diesel.Com - Bringing The BEST Together

Big blue also has a writeup somewhere but Im too lazy to find that one. So far i have done my timing 3 times this way, and one of my friends trucks too. works good if you can remember the factory timing.

I found some paper work the other day hidden in the glove box and found some good info on the truck. Found the original window sticker, complete list of head work and trany work that had been done as well. The first owner of the truck was a construction company back east who used the truck to tow a fifth wheel. Apparently the trans went out on them about 40k ago and they cracked the original head on it 50k ago. The bill on the head work including a new head, headgasket and other miscellaneous things came out to about 8 grand. The trany work came out to a little over 2 grand. Doesn't say what they did to the trany but they must have done something more than a stock rebuild because I got alittle brave yesterday and decided to play with all the new go fast parts I finally installed last week. Well needless to say the trans has held so far but slips bad in between shifts. It will however break the tires loose at 80mph on wet roads. This trany won't last long but will be fun for a little while until I head to Ultimate Transmission in two weeks!

Well im getting the trans built in two weeks, drag slicks and wheels are on there way, and after that i just need to head to the track and hope for the best. NHRDA is having a huge event at my local track (spokane, wa) on may 21 so im hoping to have all the bugs worked out by then.

I have about $2500 into it as it sits now not including the ED turbo which was originally purchased for my CR. so add $1700 for the turbo. also might as well add $800 or so for the 33.5x17x16 drag slicks and tubes and another $400 for the 16x16 wheels.

This project has turned into a Bigger Budget Beater now but i figured i might as well spend the money where it counts and not have to worry about cheaper parts failing down the road later.

Sweet thread. Wish I could find a budget beater to tinker with. Your truck has the same paint job mine does.

Good to see more budget rigs running around! After my overhaul, I'm not exactly one of them anymore. I'll see you in Spokane!

What's your average 60' time with those tires?

What's your best?

I understand it's a new setup so you probably don't have a lot of time slips just yet, but I'm really curious.

Only time will tell. Im ordering my wheels from MRW offroad and just found i need a few more measurements of my drum to get the wheels made correctly. there are probably going to stick out a mile. im only going to run them at the track so it should be fine.

If you got time to take some measurments of your drums for me that would be great. im 1300 miles from my truck right now.

Im 1300 miles away from my truck and need some measurements taken on a rear brake drum if anyone has some free time. Its a bad picture created on paint of a rear brake drum but it should give a good idea of what i need. Thanks

I got my m/t 33 10.50w 15s off craigslist for $150 with 60% tread I'm hopeing to hook up with them . I just don't see the need for 17 in wide slicks when 2000 hp 1/8 mile cars hook up with less. And my rims are 60 bucks each
