6.7 DPF bad news

I have a friend with muffler (DPF) issues with the new Dodge (6.7). From what I understand, around 20,000 miles these are "plugging" up.
Anyone have any input on this?
His truck is stuck out in the state of Indiana and the dealer is telling him July 31 for a replacement DPF. He's a little jacked. They gave him a PT cruiser to run but his gooseneck is a little much for that.
Does anyone have an idea where a guy could find a DPF part#68035060AA a little quicker?

Tried Cummins yet?
I would raise immortal Hell with the dealer until they got one in. They are supposed to have Emiisions-related warranty items as a top priority. Also, a PT cruiser is silly, they should get him a loaner trruck. From what I understand, DPF's are crazy expensive as well.

Nope, Cummins doesn't supply for the dodge application. They are crazy expensive, but what isn't now-a-days? I know if it was my truck I'd have a tent set up right outside the service bay.

He is back here in Pa. He says his truck smoked black really bad. How long did you run it that way?

And I would also like some stickers Tim.

I ran it like that for about 2k miles. Then Cummins actually asked to take a look at it. Then they had it fixed.

Gary @ Scheid Diesel mention a possible Chrysler recall due to the DPF . I have heard of another failure too.

I have seen brand new trucks go on test drives with bad dpf's smoking like crazy.( kinda envious) They will start smoking white at idle when they first start to fail. Your truck will look like a 6.0L overfueling when cold or just idling.

From my understanding in talking with the Cummins Engineers is that there was a software problem that was causing the dpf's to "burn out" or "crack internally" This is what allowed the smoke to pass. The motor derates its self, mine made a killer 160hp on the dyno with the "bad dpf" The replaced the cat and dpf.... along with a new flash. 8K later the tailpipe is clean as a whistle.
