GDS compressor upgrade

I was looking at getting the 60mm wheel and compressor upgrade for my hx35 from Gillette diesel but I saw they have a 6 blade wheel and a 8 blade wheel. What is the difference performance wise and which do y'all recommend. Probably going to eventually put a ht3b under this turbo for a mild set of twins. Looking to support around 500 hp.

I was going to mention this truck is not in my sig yet. It is a 98 12 valve automatic.

Compressor upgrades are not worth the money (GDS upgrade $275+ machine work). A stock turbo from an 04.5-07 is 60mm and can be had for $400 or less. Also there are also a few box stock S300s that are under $1000 new.
Both turbos would be better than an hx35 hybrid.

Talk to a turbo shop and look into having them machine the housing and supplying the wheel, might be a touch cheaper.

I use the 6 blade version when I mod them. You wont like the 8 blade style.

I farm for a living and I have an s300 based turbo off of a john deere cotton picker. It is a 62/71 but it has a 1.0ar housing. Wouldn't this be pretty laggy in either a single or twins setup?

Brad,

Good to know thanks for good advise and saving somenone money.

To the OP that would be decent turbo in a twin setup without having to spend more cash on a exh housing. 1.0 wont be to laggy with that twin setup. As a single well not to sure on your fueling on a CR no problem what do you have for fueling? Post more specs on your setup and people will chime in for you. Auto or manual?

An HX35 in stock form is a tough turbo, slapping on a larger compressor wheel on that small of shaft can have issues. I vote for an s300. I just happen to have one for sale too. Selling truck is the reason for sale.

Truck is a 98 12 valve automatic. Prolly gonna go with some JL 5x.016 injectors and Darren Morrison 5k gsk. I might go with the john deere s300 on a set of twins. Micky Davis has the same turbo on his twins in his half ton. He said they were a little laggier than he thought they would be.

I have the GDS 60mm compressor on my hx35 right now (6blade)
and in my opinion for a 300 dollar upgrade its a lot of bang for your buck.
the machine work is very simple... cost me $20

not long ago there was a thread on CF and it seemed the only people hating on hybrids were people who never tried them

Might as well just get a jkidd hybrid from diesel auto power. You'll get a new turbo ready to go on for $300. It would end up being a cheaper route. I have one of these on my truck that I got almost brand new for real cheap. It pulls much better than stock on 4th and 5th.
