The best type of mechanical injector?

If you had a clean sheet of paper to design a diesel cylinder head the way you wanted to what mechanical injector would you choose? Is a pencil style injector useless in a performance application? What if you needed a smaller diameter and longer injector what would you choose?

Can any spray angle be had on new tips for these injectors easily? They are not going in a Cummins or Dt466. One of these days I would like to have a set of billet heads made but I would kind of like to have an idea of what would be a good injector to use. I am thinking the taller the injector the better since raised ports would require a taller cylinder head. I haven't been around performace diesel very much so I am kind of lost when it comes to where to get custom parts made.
