So some of the older member might remember I had a 800hp 2003 over a decade ago. I sold it to move away from CR's and Low and behold I ended back up with a 2003. However this time I wanted to take a different approach. Not to go all out .But make a fun truck to drive and use. Friend of mine runs a Diesel shop and had a motor swap job that was on his back burner. The owner also wanted to sell it. So I went and looked at it and I saw the potential also to feel the nostalgia of the early CR's

Looks like you definitely got a project!! Body looks decent for an '03.
body is Decent No rust at all needs a paintjob for sure

Very clean underneath for up north. And a certified axle dump exhaust.
I hate the Axle dump guys they obviously never work on their own truck because of all the soot that gets on everything

Keep us updated! I love the info and pics of wrenching in progress.
well got it home and in the shop. As you can tell its been sitting for a while hence the bird nest in the battery box. Time to start getting the engine out

The previous owner put a hot box on it and dropped a valve seat. Before that he had went in to the trans and did some freshen up. He said the trans was good but the curiosity got the best of me. As well as my dad sayin if your gonna do it now is the time. Damit this was suppose to be simple :hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::umno: Nothing like a good deep clean.

#6 cylinder looks awesome. Damn. That's not going to buff out.
it would have been fine if he would have oiled the cylinder but :umno:
Man, you ain't kiddin'. That engine looks horrible.
I dont know exactly how long it sat like this
It's likely repairable, but I'd worry about water freezing in places that it shouldn't. That needs stripped bare, hot tanked and magnafluxed.
I have oiled it since getting it out I think it might hone out

That being said the guy i got the truck from had a spare running 160k mile engine that went with it. The only kicker was it was in a rust bucket of a truck. Motor was already pulled and on standby for me to get the other problem was he left it open in the shop and stink bugs where all in it. So to be certain it was clean I needed to disassemble it to clean out the Bugs literally. And since I am there I cant leave well enough alone Might as well throw some Crowler valve springs in it. as well as needle gun the block.

Just hone it and set the ring gaps tight, be sure they really push out to the walls when it gets hot ???

I'm almost certain that I found the green 03 that made me get my 03 on FB marketplace as a roller. The way it looks and location and missing parts makes me think it was a hot rod/street puller 15 years ago. Sad end to a sharp truck. The 03's are fickle beasts. Left over parts, first run parts, first run production issues. Kind of a bomb really. I wish I knew where mine ended up but I think it got scrapped because I've not seen it in years.

Got the block and head all cleaned up painted with some John Deere muffler black. Then I got the whole bottom end cleaned out and resealed.
Timing cover resealed cleaned the head Surface and added some arp 2000s with stock MLS gasket

I want a table like that. Surplus restaurant sink?

What exactly am I seeing on that trans? I see misalignment on the servo but I'm not in thinking mode this morning

As just about anyone knows that has ever done Twin turbos. There is always that v band clamp on the Hotpipe that just seeps out soot under high boost /high drive pressure. And well it bugs the chit out of me so i went a extra step on this setup to sleeve the V-band connection and O-ring it. I know the O-ring will melt that's what i am hoping for melt and seal it.
