Sooooo.... i started to work on her again.... such a long road... i got a bunch of electrical stuff to wire her up... still have to figure out brakes and power steering, redo driveshafts (wrong lengths), meet all the safety requirements, install gauges, fix oil leaks, install more breather tubes, figure out a hitch point, rear suspension overhaul, SO MUCH to do...

Soo... I'm on the fence about gauges, I priced a set from speedhut, which appears to be quality stuff.. it's all analog off course, it's looking like it'll be around $1000 or a hair more...
I'm thinking I'll need: tach, oil pressure, water temp, fuel pressure, boost psi, egt...
Is that about what everyone is running?
Of course id love to go to a data logger but they're wayyy pricey...

I through a gasser cluster in mine, and then just wait until you have funds for a data logger. If you are serious about pulling then you need a logger, you will learn so much from looking at the logs.

I went with a tach, oil psi, coolant temp, boost, egt, and fuel psi. Only issue is you gotta either have a great memory and remember to look and make a mental note or have a go pro setup. I had a go pro and still couldn't see them lol. Data logger is where it's at but expensive.

That's the exact premise I'm trying to avoid, but again, data logger is wayy too much...

Check out rpm data loggers there very affordable. You can get a basic kit with digital display for around 1300. Then expand it later on

Can't believe it's been over a year since i updated this... but unfortunately didn't do much in that time, cut the frame & welded in a new back half, wired up a start button and that's about it...
Need to build a hitch, finish electronics, purchase & install all safety equipment, install hydraulic steering...
I tried to start it the other day and it wouldn't start, but anyways...
got another little one due at the end of this month so i doubt I'll make this season either... unfortunately... someday

Hate to tell ya, once they get a little older, you will have even less time. When my kids were between 3 and 8 was when I was pulling. Once they got past that, the pulling just doesn't have time, if they are involved in much. One of our kids has some sort of tournament pretty much every weekend in the summer.

Well, i actually started this thing today amd decided to hook up a tach using parts i bought off here a few years ago (years I know) and i can't use much... so i decided to make a "W" wire from the alternator, using a dakota box, and it only works past 1300 rpm or so? Im guessing of course but the box says it has no signal until it gets that high of RPM and once its there the tach comes on reading, its not accurate but the issue is that is that it thinks there is no signal at low RPM
Im going to call Dakota tomorrow and see what i can figure out

Also, i measured voltage, at idle it reads 4.7 - 4.8 volts and once its above 5 volts (give or take 1300 RPM) it starts to show a signal...

Damn, I was hoping for a different ending to this thread. It was kinda cool watching you build this truck since 2013, buying a house, having kids, and still working on it. Life happens though. Good luck out there.
