Difference when logging in?

I noticed that when I logged in this morning as soon as I started typing in my user name an x appeared at the far right inside the box. Then when I started typing my password an odd symbol appeared at the far right of the box. It's a small dot with a curved line above it(looks like an eye). Went to DTR and the same symbols appear? Where did this come from?
I did a register cleanup on Norton this morning before I noticed this. Now it happens on any site I visit.

I still use it at work. Most of the manufacturers' websites I have to deal with require you to use IE.
