Minneapolis Moline hot farm tractor?

I want to build a moline hot farm tractor and was curious if anyone has had good luck or if there is a reason i never seen a diesel moline in the pull in the bigger classes? If so what engine are you running and have you found a good place to get parts or is everything custom made? We have a G950 and G1050 sitting around waiting to be built but both are lp so a different engine will be swapped in for sure... probably aa 585?

Thanks but I don't want an ih. That's all anyone pulls around here n I want to b different. Realy want to build a moline since iv never seen one other than an alcohol tractor in limited super stock

I can ask a guy at work, hes big into MM. Around here all the MM pullers are gas though.

Any help would b appreciated. My uncle and cousin both pull g1000s with 800 motors in them and dominate the farm class but I want to get into hot farm and they don't know much when it comes to the diesel molines, especially turning them up that much

Alright, he said theres probably a reason you havent seen much MM stuff in hot farm LOL . He said you might be able to get diesel heads and pistons for the 1050 since its around 500cid already if you wanted. The 585 is one of the biggest ones IIRC. Most of the MM stuff is low speed so it'll take a lot to turn some rpms. Another problem is the injectiojn system, they got away from using bosch pumps so that may be a limiting factor. He does know of a guy that put a 5.9 Cummins in a 950 but it sounds like you dont want to go that route. Ultimately it will take a lot of trial/error because its not common. If the injection system is up to the capabilities and the engine is well balanced he didnt see a problem being competative. Thats his $.02

A guy by the name of Wendel Everett may be able to help you out with some parts/info. 740-922-3335. Gnadenhutten, OH

Putting in an 8.3 or 5.9 Cummins is about your best option. Those big heavy individual heads don't like being pushed as hard as you have to for hot farm.

I've got several MM's, it seems like there just isn't much out there unless you really know what your doing with the pumps, my grandpa was a dealer for them back in the day and they had a puller, there "Hot Rod GB", those are rated at what 70-75 HP from factory and that one supposed made 140hp at the pto

Gasser? Those big gasser work good because of the amount of torque they can make at higher rpms. The big diesels are not fans of rpms.

If you want to stick with a Moline engine, your best bet is a 585. While it is still not a true direct injection (MAN combustion chamber) they still are a lot better to work with than the indirect injected 504.

I have have half a bug to put together a 585 stretched out to the 800+ inch range.

Stock head studs only like about 400hp, having those made is going to be expensive, they're around 20" long.

Thanks for all the input guys. I have been doing a lot of reading and I did read about guys putting 8.3s in but the rules around here say u have to use the original engine for that model tractor. I also came across something saying you could machine the head to accept John Deere injectors and using John Deere pistons but I'm not to sure if this is true or not

I am looking to buy a future Moline tractor as well. There is one Moline around me but I cant remember what engine it is in his pulling tractor.

Wish I could find someone who has built one of these already. Being only 21 I don't exactly have the money to be building a new engine every couple pulls just because the previous setup didnt work out:hehe:

Not a hot stock but i really do well around new england area , Problems with the diesel molines is rpm , they don't like it nor will they live long , hope you like the pictures , I pull stone bolt and tranfer sled, does great on both.

Nice looking tractor LONEWOLF. The rpm limit for this class is 3000rpm, 640ci limit, and 3.0 charger if that helps anyone out. Hopefully i can find someone who has built one because im starting to consider building something more common so parts are more accessable and just easier to build in general...

That is what i would like to do but i dont think the rules allow. Here are the engine rules:
Engine
1. Must use original make engine with original make tractor.
2. Diesel class only.
3. 3000 RPM with no more than one-one second-spike when hooked
to sled.
4. 640 cubic inch limit with a plus or minus of 1% variance /
no deck plates allowed.
5. Stock head, block, intake and exhaust manifolds for that
model engine or series engine.

How do you guys interpret number one? That the engine had to at least be an option for that model tractor?

I have a G900 with a "8.3" Cummins. If your going to be competitive with a Minnie in a hot farm class you might as well figure on ditching MM engine. Its big, its heavy, the heads suck, the fuel system sucks, it all just sucks. To overcome all the problems you'll encounter with a 585 (the only direct engine MM produced) you'll need a bank roll none short of Donald Trump's. Then you'll run into problems behind the engine so there's a reason you only see red and green in the hot farm. Do I suggest using a Minnie? If you have a Bridgeport, a lathe, a fat bank account, and are dead set on prairie gold then go for it. I did and its upset a lot of red and green guys.
