Correction: I just texted him, its an 18 gal tank. Since we cut fuel out of his tune and closed the vanes down some more, he's burning that 18gal of cng to 10gal of diesel fuel.

CNG is not going to make diesel that already at a moderate air fuel ratio to smoke more, and IS often proven to contribute to a cleaner burn. HOWEVER a diesel that is already at a low air fuel ratio is very likely to smoke as the CNG will react well before the last of the fuel is injected. Simply over fueled for the air. No rocket science here.

All I can share are my personal experiences, I had to cut fuel and that's that. Especially during a "lug" point.

Wouldn't it entirely make sense if you add fuel (CNG-LPG) to a diesel running at a low equivalence ratio that it would require less diesel?
Smokie is entirely right, in a 12 valve your controlling the air fuel running on propane or cng with your foot, unless you set up the rack limit purely for dual fuel.
Your reducing the torque limitation (electronic rack limit) during dual fuel operation. For christ sake's your both saying the same thing.

We use to run it back in the day even have a couple of regulators and bottle racks laying around i might part with. Good increase in power and mileage depending how you set it up.

It is my understanding that the #2 fuel mixture should be a little rich vs. lean because the propane/cng will help burn excessive fuel.

Your user name fits the thread quite well! I personly would never feel safe allowing an non percise fuel source into my engine that is throttled by fuel... I was always understood that it ran cleaner because it ignited before the diesel increasing the timing and helping the diesel fully burn because there is fire all ready in the combustion chamber.

Seen the No Limit guy blow a Hole bigger than my head in the side of a Dmax.
Also Saw Quadzilla use propane to try to prove his 6.0L module made more power on the Dyno than the TS box.
Howling: "Hey man why do we smell Propane? And Why is this gas grill line coming from the locked tool box?"
Quadzilla: "Pay no attention to the Gas Bottle behind the curtain!"
Good times!

I know it first hand. He used to trash talk me every chance he had. Then my customers would walk all over his customers, for less money.
I just let my work do the talking.

We did dabble in adding a little propane back in the day as Wideopen said. We wanted a little more fuel so we could run more nitrous on the second stage, oh the detonation lol

As far as installing it for fuel economy, you're simply trading one fuel for another and will still require the same amount of BTU's to get you where you want to go at whatever speed makes you happy. The BTU's from LP or CNG will cost less, but you have to figure out how long it will take to offset the cost of the kit and the headache of keeping two fuel tanks filled.
This^^^^
I ran LP for a couple of years. It didn't smoke more. Again, you're controlling the AFR with your foot/AFC on a twelve valve.
If you get an LP tank at your house you can install a wet line on it and fill your vehicle at home for the same price.
I'm not sure I follow you on your first statement. If you open a CNG valve to air and provide fire, it will burn. The tank will not explode because the fire can't follow the fuel thru the valve where there is no air, but the fuel outside the tank will burn provided that there is enough fuel.
|
I wasn't expecting this much input....I didn't pay for the kit, so was curious on the fuel mileage...No wa y I would go purchase a kit though...

LMAO!!! Yeah, It fits my past......So you're saying that by injecting propane, timing increases?
