97 wont start when warm

hey guys I got a 97 12 valve 100% stock. Just recently when the truck gets up to operating temp it doesn't want to start back up. If I floor the pedal it'll start, rev to about 2000 rpms, then slowly die down and shut off even if I keep it floored. I know that this is a sign for when a vp44 goes bad but is it the same for a ppump? Really hoping its just the lift pump going bad. Thanks in advance!

Sound like the shutoff solenoid. Verify it is holding in the up position when it does this. Could possibly be a air leak somewhere in the fuel system also

I'll check out the shut off solenoid. Before all this happened the truck would take a little while to start unless I touched the throttle a little bit. I've only had the truck for about 8 months and it's done it the whole. I was thinking maybe it could be a lift pump or air getting in the system?

Very possible. Overflow valve could be worn out also. The suction line from the tank to the pre screen and fuel heater is common too.

What do you think the odds are it being the injection pump?

You can take the overflow valve apart to verify it's damaged. You could even pull the spring apart a bit to try and revive a lazy spring.

The fuel heater typically leaks, I don't think it blocks fuel or anything like that. It could be sucking air and losing prime here. It's very easy to remove for a check. I haven't had mine on in years and I can still start my truck at -25F at 21deg timing.

The lift pump (fuel transfer pump) could be on it's way out. My first one lasted around 230,000 miles before it wouldn't supply pressure consistently. You could go to a Harbor Freight and buy a fuel pressure gauge for around $20 and there's a 10mm port off your fuel filter it'll plug into.

You should also check your fuel filter.

Usually when the ppump is on it's way out, it does act goofy when warm. Typically it's just a loss of power, and or little to no idle.
