What welding helmet do you use or prefer?

Then whose gloves do you use, if any?

Finally, any coats, aprons, jackets, etc used for PPE.


Just wanting to get some opinions before I go buying a few new things that I'm lacking at work.

I have used Miller stuff, Jackson stuff, and Hobart Stuff. Been looking at a Miller Digital Elite Helmet.

Bought the cheapo harbor freight hood 6 years ago and it's still working. I bought a nice set of flexible welding gloves at welding store though.

I have the miller digital elite. Have had it since 08. Best hood I've ever used.

I use the green mill coats as they are usually supplied to us.

For gloves I buy bulk from galeton online. They are a carhartt like material and stand up to welding well. I also like the miller 750L. They have a huge gauntlet cuff with great insulation yet are still very flexible.
 
Don't cheap out on a hood/lens if you enjoy your eyes. Auto darkening lenses wear on your eyes over time but the better quality ones are more clear and switch faster. Think of it like buying optics, the cheap ones work but the better ones are a whole different league. As far as gloves I wear Yellowstone elk skin. They don't wear quite as long but you can pick a 3/32 5p+ off the floor without removing them, and they fit nicely. Which I wear a size 12-13 glove and they are the only ones I have come across that fit right.
 
Speedglas auto darken hood, it's what i use at work and in my own shop.
Gloves i use weldas deerskin, i like the thinner ones with a long cuff.
I usually wear treated nomex jackets, for heavy stuff i wear a backless leather.
 
I will say that I am going to buyer a nicer good when this one quits working and that time is probably getting close. Gloves I use are Caiman revolution series deerskin long cuffs.

I'm heading up to the local pawn shop today to see what they have for helmets. They normally have 15 or so units and pricing is hard to beat on them. I do some welding but not a ton to justify spending 200 plus on a unit. I have a harbor freight one now in the shop and frankly the head gear sucks.

As far as gloves I'm doing more mig than anything and am looking at a miller mig lined performance ones. Gloves can make all the difference. Also might get a might/stick set due to welding a lot of larger stuff recently. As far as tig gloves I have a thin set I use and I love them.

Finally jackets. Miller indura blue coats. Anyone use one? I don't want leather due to how hot they are and I like not being hot so they are out. The thin green coats/black Hobart coats are alright but they burn through too easily for them to last beyond a year. I do a lot of over head welding and is about the only time I wear a coat. Normally I just have some sleeves.

I wanna buy it once and be done.
 
Well the pawn shop had a few good items and pricing. They had a one or two time used Miller digital elite that was still in the box. Was asking 250 for it. I took in some old Hitachi cordless tools I bought used for 30 bucks. The batteries didn't hold a charge after one day and it was a 5 piece kit. I charged all the batteries this morning and took it all in. I told them in store credit only. So I gave them the kit and 105 bucks and walked out with this.

That's a steel for that hood. You should really like it. It has enough adjustment to kick up low level tig welding and also darken very high mig and stick so it doesn't blind you. Make sure you keep your cover lens fresh.
 
I really like it so far. Now I just gotta find some better clothing. I thought it was a good deal so I jumped on it. They have a few good things every now and then. It has 3 more outside lenses in the box and one more inside. Where do you buy additional ones from. Cyber welder seems to have some good pricing
 
I have a local weld shop who has them in stock. Their prices are close enough for the lenses that I buy from them. I've had to replace the headgear once and also bought it from them. I like to keep 20 or so outside lenses and 5-10 inside on hand at all times.

As far as clothing, nothing will last forever welding. That's why I like the green coats. They last long enough and they're cheap and easy to replace.

Al my clothing, welding hood, gloves, boots, tools and whatever else I need is a tax wrote off for me. I spend around 500-1000 a year.

I like that hood! You got a deal too! I almost bought a miller but ended up going with a cheaper Lincoln electric auto darkening.

For gloves I got cheap thick leathers from lowes that are pretty flexible. They have lasted a pretty good amount of time for the price I paid.

I don't wear coats or anything like that unless it's cold out and I have a coat on anyway. In the summer all I wear is a T-shirt. Getting hit by cherries has never really bothered me for some reason.
 
Thanks!! This thing has a huge viewing area. I love it. Harbor freight helmet is nothing like it.

Ordering more lenses now for it. Then I think I'm going to try the indura jacket. It looks very nice. Also is guaranteed fire resistant for the life of the coat. Minor peace of mind LOL

I wish I could spend 1k a year on my stuff. My 2 impacts and torque wrench exceed that.
 
Use a non-electrogadget hood ya pu$$y! Ill hold your purse! Lol only time I use an auto darkening is when I'm in the garage like when I was doing a lot of tacking for the roll cage today. At workb I weld all day old school. Only time I wish I had one was for vertical spotting. But I get by without no problem.

Its a big purse man i dont know if you can handle it. LOL

For the price I can't complain. I grew up using a auto dimming so its just easier for me.
