Man, I am surprised you HAVEN'T already torched the thing, or run it into the ocean, yet.
Hope your luck gets better.

I got into another '06 this week and knowing what I know about Commonrails, I am absolutely scared to death of being any distance from home with it.

I plan to carry an extra pre-flashed ECM, spare injectors and a TIPM, hoping that covers any potential issues down the road.
Just my luck it'll sling a rod.

Mark.

Man, I feel your pain. Just P-pump it and carry a spare set of injector lines. Hopefully the new ECM gets it fixed. Those trucks are at about the age that the ECMs are getting wore out. Friend of mine had to put on in his 98 a few years back. They get pretty well abused on the side of the block there.

Those are PCM, not ECU. The PCM mounts on the firewall on passenger side. The ECU mounts on the driver side of block. The only way to get a new ECU is from Dodge and I think it was around $1900, plus dealer programming.
ECU for your truck only has one large pin connection. PCM has three large pin connections.

Gary, there are a few 2002 automatic ECMs listed on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, you might look there.
If you contact any of the suppliers, be sure to ask if they have the mileage on them, anything over 200k I'd pass on.

There's also a place out of Chicago that claims they can rebuild yours for you and they are listed on Car-Part search results for your application.

Otherwise I believe that I have a 2000 manual one that I can send to Bob Wagner for a re-flash to run your 2002 automatic.

There is no parts store that offers an ecm for a vp truck to my knowledge. Been through this a million times.
I've used used a place outta Florida a couple time, to "rebuild" some.

From the Cardone listing Gary linked above:

"Flash Units require programming specific to the vehicle prior to shipping. Accurate VIN and mileage are required. Delivered units are ready for installation with no further programming required. OE #5604 0220AC"

The OE part# mentioned (in bold) is the exact part number for a firewall PCM for a 2002 auto.

If you call a dodge dealer service dept in your area, they can order an ECU and program it to your truck. I went through this a few times myself. But the cost was about $2400 with programming. Cheapest bet is to try and find a functioning used one and install it and run.
The only parameters that make a difference are auto or manual. Any ECU from 99-2002 will work, as long as the trans is the same as yours. Auto or manual ECU can be programmed to work. Like Mark said, Bob Wagner can reprogram one for you. I have purchased a couple used ones from Mark over the years and haven't had a problem. There are a few companies out there, like Mark and Rick said, that will rebuild yours or ship you a reman unit. Flagship one in NY, Goecm in TX, and a few more across the country. The particular one you suggested in Florida has a pretty bad reputation. They advertise all over the web with different company names. I just didn't have a very good experience with them. The ECU does take a beating being mounted on the side of the block and I also think heat is a main culprit that makes them get worn out.

Here's the google results I got from: cummins 3947912

cummins 3947912 - Google Search

Surely someone in those listings has what you need?

I'm sure I'll get jumped on for recommending this again, one of the delivery drivers that transported boats at my old work had a vp truck with about 400k miles on it. He went thru 3 pumps, then did the p-pump swap. Said he gained mileage, the truck ran stronger and was cleaner than the vp with a tuner. Everything worked as factory stock, the truck was nicer than most with 100k miles. Said he had an injector line crack on him but changed to a different brand and has been total reliable. Don't remember asking about the cruise control but otherwise if you jumped in it and hit the key you couldn't tell the difference. I'd bet it would do everything better than it does now and run in the 12's.
