07 with trashed motor, 03-07 interchangability?

nieghbor has a 07 f550 with a motor that was studded and deleted but had locked up on him. trying to find him a donor truck but what issues do you run into with what years? i would assume the short block and heads are all interchangable with no issues? a local mechanic that specializes in the 6 liters told him that only a 07 motor will work i'm just trying to understand why he would have told him that?

It depends on how complete the replacement engine is. I know we got into trouble with one we did for a customer a few years back. I think it was the ficm that caused a problem.

F series FICM's are all interchangeable. The only thing you'll get with a misprogrammed FICM is a soft code for compatibility. No check engine light, no running/driving issues, etc.

ANY 6.0 engine will work.............we do 03 trucks with late motors all the time. Plug and play. Keep ebp, icp and ipr from your truck just for safety.
