Gasser engine question

Anyone familiar with v-10 problems. Buddy has a 2000 excursion with the v-10 that has developed a knock. Doesn't sound like a rod, it seems to be coming from higher up in the block. Kind of sounds like piston slap and only from one cylinder. Doesn't do it immediately on startup only begins to make the noise after the engine has been running for 30 seconds or so. Also the engine seems to have a considerable increase in oil usage. No leaks or drips to be found and no smoke out the tailpipe. Truck has 140,000 miles on it. Has anyone seen something like this with one of these engines before?
