fluid & heat exchanger on non lockup 46RH

Hi,

What is your take on using synthetic ATF like Amsoil or ATF+4 in a daily driven truck with a couple months of frequent -40 weather?

And also, would appreciate your take on keeping or removing the liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger.
