02 Cummins
Edge Jammer Stage 5
BD Super B turbo (hx40)

I run juice/attitude on 1x1 around town: no smoke unless you push the pedal too hard

on 1x1: slight haze at 32 pounds of boost
on 5x5: EPA is looking for me and green peace is pissed

Running 70: 850-880 on flat ground, 900-950 pullin a hill (1x1)
Running 80: 820's on flat ground 900 up a hill, turbo is making 5 pounds

Pulled 5k and egt's stayed in the mid 1000's (definatly not a pulling truck...)

Torque converter slips on anything above 2x1.... (my tranny loves me right now)

I know these injectors aren't the best, but man they are a huge bang for the buck, but would definatly be way too much for a stock turbo.... or stock anything for that matter.

Trade them out for Jammer 4's. I tried the 5's and man was there a difference in the smoke. I pull heavy and can control the smoke pretty well with this turbo. I pull on 2-2 most of the time and hold 75 mph on hills and hardly ever get into the 1200F's. Flat ground it 1050 hills are 1175 at 24 psi.

Stock HX35 with some die grindage.

Smoke depends on on SW setting and weather. On #9, you can only imagine the carnage-- think Civil War re-enactment, only blacker smoke. With smarter pedal use, smoke is a non-issue.

EGT will get up there, but I'm speeding in a 75mph before I can pass 1400. If I keep the boost below 33psi, I've essentially got no EGT problems at all, and still have the fast spoolup of the stocker.

M4s are actually pretty nice with the stock charger.

PS62/14 jammer3's (100hp) with Edge drag comp off and easy on the pedal very light haze up hills empty.

comp on 5x5 I can't heap it from smoking even with a light foot.

comp on 5x5 will clear to a light haze at 40psi and 1400deg.

I'm running 7x.010 injectors now (200hp) versus the 11 holes I was running. These are cleaner, smoother, and easier to daily drive. The only time these smoke with the smarty on 5 and the tst on 1 is if I catch the tranny in a wrong gear or I mash it. That's it.

How big is too big?

Howdy folks, from the Great White. I just purchased my first diesel about a year ago, and I've been bitten by the performance bug. I was wondering how big you guys reckon I could go (with regards to injectors) before I would have issues?

The truck is an '01 with an automatic transmision. The only upgrades it has are an Edge Comp, AFE Stage II Intake, a CFM+ Intake Manifold, a billet TQ Converter, and a shift kit. The only time I've ever seen any black smoke at all come out of this thing was upon startup in -40 degree weather.

I want to stay away from smoke. Your $4 (or $4.50)/gallon diesel is expensive to be sure, but we've been battling $5/gallon diesel for over a year right now. We're closing in on $6 as I write this. I would deem a light haze acceptable under normal acceleration, and some good smoke under heavy acceleration. Also, I'd like to stay away from higher EGT's (possible to stay under 1200?...I've got gauges on the way!).

I know this might be an awful lot without much info, but any help would be appreciated!

Welcome to Comp D!

You arent seeing any smoke with an Edge Comp?

Something is wrong.... It should smoke pretty good when you put your foot in it.

Stock Turbo (hx 40)

Clouds up every intersection with every shift, if I drive with an egg under the pedal it's not bad though.

Running 1x3 it'll run 8-900 on the freeway, towing, around 1000, maybe 1100+ on hills. On anything over 2x5 once the pedal is maxed out, so is the pyro

Good daily driver/tow rig injector if you are careful
HX-40 is a stock charger huh? on what?

Ah, so sorry! It's not an Edge Comp that I have, but rather an Edge EZ. It makes a noticeable difference on all 3 power levels, and now that I'm so used to driving with it, the truck seems completely gutless if I unplug it.

power is solid and efficient. 3x5 is a good puff and on 5x5 I can cloud out cars but once the turbo spools its clear. the 14mm housing is a touch laggy but it spools well. egts are very controllable, these injectors are very nice for a work type injector and for mild performance that is clean running.

Sorry if i go a little off with this reply. I have a friend who wants to go with a set of jammer 5 nozzles. Now i dont know anything about the jammer`s so thats why im asking. Is his stock injector bodies going to be able to hold up to the extra fueling. He is also running a stock HX40. Now i know it is to much for that charger but can he get away with running them

71mm turbo
P-pumped
On stock injectors and stock pump I made 400hp
Tons of smoke but drove down the road fine, not much haze or heavy smoke, but ran kinda hot (900 down the highway)

Same set up with 7x14's
didnt get to dyno, but throttle response was greatly improved and a slight haze at idle, EGT's droped slightly on the highway.

Now running 8x16's. No haze at idle. EGT's are suprizingly lower, but smoke is outragious! Undereasy acceleration it smokes, under hard throttle it blacks out the sun! Had to crank the pump all the way down just to be able to drive it, but on the track, nothing else can touch it!
