Melt down on gears NV4500 see pics!!

Couldn't figure out why the tranny was locked up on the truck I just bought guy said shift fork was probably popped out of alignment. So I dropped the tranny today and took it apart to find what you see in the pics. What would cause this to happen 5th nut? The bad gear is on the front side of the tranny.

Had the same thing happen and yes it was my fault. Low oil level in tranny. Before you rebuild it check the case real good mine was so bad it warped the case.

Low oil/wrong oil/excessively dirty oil+ towing with more than stock power tends to cook things a bit.
