I wouldn't be concerned about the cooler lines. The big lines are fine and good, the part you need to think about is the cooler. You want the big lines to keep them from being a pressure drop/flow restriction. The cooler is the part you need to make sure flows enough and has enough heat rejection.

There is a little science behind this but it's not going to make a noticeable difference either way. Get a 1/4" npt to -8 adapter and run -8 hose all the way, it'll be fine.
