Typical ATF+4 Viscosity for the 47re Trans

I put together the list below for comparing typical ATF+4 Viscosity for the 47re Trans. My transmission pan is bent/leaking due to previous over-tightening, so it needs to be replaced. In the past I have used Vavoline but from the list below it may be of benefit to switch to Pennzoil to get alittle more bite out of the converter during non-lockup. Redline “High Temp” is an option too but I am cautious about using a more Dex derived fluid in the 47re.

Thoughts?

Vavoline AFT +4

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.55
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 34.13
Viscosity Index 198

Mobil ATF +4

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.5
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 34.4
Viscosity Index 194

Castrol ATF +4

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.5
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 33
Viscosity Index 206

Pennzoil ATF+4

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.71
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 35.13
Viscosity Index 198

Redline C+ ATF

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.2
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 32.3
Viscosity Index 213

Redline High Temp (not specfically “recommend”)

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 10
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 53.9
Viscosity Index 172

AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.5
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 38.5
Viscosity Index 165

JD Hy-Gard Viscosity @ 100°C................. 9.4 cSt

I've been using Shell Spirax hyd/trans oil for the last year, even through the winter. Definitely tightened up the converter over the Amsoil Multi-vehicle stuff I was using.

Has Anyone tried Schaeffer's #204SAT All-Trans Supreme with good results?

Viscosity @ 100C (212F) cSt 7.7
Viscosity @ 40C (104 F) cSt 36.0
Viscosity Index 180 (min)

Dex, hygaurd, generic hydro trans oil, etc... all work well. Ive used just about everything in various trucks with great results. I prefer dex in a dd but it also gets to -10 in indiana during the winter.

For reference I will add allison will allow dang near anything in some of theirs trans. The 740 can use 15w40 even...

Dex/merc in all of our 47 and 48s.

Could you please shed light on why Dex/Merc?

Per all of the Dex/Merc product sheets its a less viscous atf then +4, which would from my take translate into less converter efficiency (stall speed too). I am prob just going to use Valvoline +4 for my refill as its available locally (penz is internet only), but curious.

So using dex merc over atf+4 wouldnt that raise the stall rpm of the converter? Or would it lower? I was recommended by very reputable builder to run the dex over atf+4

I've had three trans built by 3 different "big" builders and was told by all 3 to use dex/merc. I always thought the Chrysler plus4 was an additive that made the shifts less harsh, meant to cause a deliberate slip on the clutches.
