You received plenty of " helpful educated responses " but apparently someone is supposed to come to your house with a manual and chase wires for you? There isn't a simple "replace _________" and all will be well answer. Quit whining.

Only things I've been hearing over an over is replace the sensor but I guess parts throwing is educated to some? Never once was given any insight on other circuits that are tied in to this, OEM splices If it having a auto PCM will affect it or information of that matter. Trust me I don't need or have want for anyone to "come chase wires for me" I do this everyday for a living but i guess it's frowned upon on here to ask simple questions an see what other people have experienced an get what they have come across before I dig in to mine?

You didn't read the answers did you?

I knew the sensors were identical, what I dont know is if the PCM being one for a automatic mattered at all? Or do the clusters themselves have issues on these an this being a high mileage truck too. My phone wouldn't allow me to open the pdf link sorry. Heard them the first time that 97 an under did not use the abs sensor it was only for ABS. About the only answer from you is to read a manual....
I guess that's all you tell people?? I've clearly provided enough info on this abortion rust free hack job truck that I purchased an I took a gamble with replacing what I did beings it was cheap, so what? But thanks anyways sir for your advice to read a manual, have a good day.

Once you read the manual you might see (big assumption) why I didn't try to list each and every solution to your wiring problems. Since it seems that is all you got from my posts I obviously wasted my time anyway, because I provided more information than that. I won't be doing that again.

And no, when there is something that isn't covered in the manual I volunteer more time.

Provided that the tail shaft of the transfer case is the same as my 96, the speed sensor indexes (rotates) in the bore to compensate for different diameter gears, which is what lets the ECM compensate for different gear ratios. The speed output is frequency based, and the manual has a chart for Frequency VS road speed. The signal from the sensor splices, one feeding the PCM and the other feeding the gauge cluster.

On my truck, it stopped reading. I installed a new sensor, and it also refused to read. I ended up having to index the sensor to a position marked for a tooth count that was different than the tooth count on the gear I have. (if you look at the case, tooth counts are cast in to the housing) That leads me to believe I had a problem with the gear on the tail shaft, be it lack of friction or otherwise worn.

how much easier can it be than clicking a link and having a free pdf of the factory manual to go thru the factory steps to figure it out? beats asking a bunch of people what "might" be wrong any day. just because someone else replaced a sensor or had a broken wire in a certain place doesn't mean your truck is going to be the same.
