Don't nail it in 5th. You can go 100+mph in 4th.

Has anyone tried cryo treating their gears and shafts? I use to work for a shop that cryo'ed all stock glide gear sets in race trannies and it seemed to make them take alot more abuse before failure. It supposedly aligns molecules in the steel and reduces stress points or risers? I don't know all the science but it sure seemed to help. After 5 or 6 broken trannies i'd sure give it a whirl.

This is the same thing that happened to me in my 2000 after blew third out of the original trans. Bought a reman one, and lost 5th five times, all the same failure mode. I just took it back to stock and sold the truck. Manuals aren't my thing anymore.

NV5600's might be stronger...they ether shift like butter, or like total crap...nothing in between in my experience. Either a good one or bad one. A few people have broken main shafts in them, which is EXPENSIVE to fix...and a few more have ripped the teeth off 6th gear.

what RPM are you in at 70 in OD? I've been told to keep my truck over 2000rpm before I load up in 6th or I'll have a repeat of my avatar.

Yeah, Standard Transmission told me to not get on it under 1600rpm in 5th gear. He said the low end torque is what destroys 5th gear.
So far I am still running Standards tranny. I have had it just over a year and beat her everyday on the highway.
With the Silver64 and the other goodies I have got to be in the 550+ range.

Might I suggest a Zumbrota Transmission as well when your shopping for a new one.
ZBAG - Zumbrota Bearing Gear - Home
Give Chris @ ram boys a call or Garret at PDP, they can hook ya up with a very good price.
I hate to see the shipping cost tho. I'm curious tho on the cryo, I've suggested that to loyd mills when he broke his last trans and he didn't have time and considered it. I hope someone with big HP does before I break mine Tho, if I have the cash, I may just go auto......

right at 2000RPM , that was with as SPS62, i just changed my turbo yesterday to a SB66, and added a few more go fast goodies, i'm just gonna have to ease up on it in 5th gear, or buy a sherman tank.

I think i really like my automatic
You may not have as many problems with the SB66 as you did with the 62. It will come up a little slower and wont hit quite as hard, or make the power down low that the 62 would. Many times a bigger turbo wont make more torque than one that is a little smaller since they light slower, but it will make more HP on the big end.

x2 Anyone tried this?
If I ever rebuild my tranny I think it will get treated. It doesn't seem that expensive: Performance Cryogenics How much do the shafts and gears weigh?

I was told by the local cryo guy that it doesn't do much for shafts or parts that are subject to torsional/twisting force, (his words)
