Hamilton block

What's everyone know about the Hamilton solid competition blocks? I keep hearing about the castings being "weaker" yet I still see super stock trucks who have them, Albeit some still with a deckplate.

What say CompD?

I have no personal experience but two sled pullers I know of were having bearing issues with the Hamilton Solid Blocks and claimed the material was softer causing the bearings to move. Both went to Chaos Fab and have had no problems.

The Chaos blocks are expensive compared to the Hamilton though. To me if you are going to pay that much for a block I would go billet aluminum if rules allowed.

Whats the price difference between a chaos solid block and having to buy a 6.7 block, machine it, then all the extra machine and sleeves in deckplate parts? the chaos block is expensive, but it was just proven at schied to be a winning combo. They dyno #s were insane, with SS turbos and ppump that is. Kevin is having an order sent out soon Dave, so if you go that route I'd be in contact with him.

Depending on the set up you would still put sleeves in and a girdle on. The same goes with billet aluminum blocks. To me at that price it's just a preference between billet aluminum and cast steel. Neither one needs a deck plate put I'd definitely put sleeves and a girdle in at SS levels.

Read up on class rules
Last I knew, 3.0 has to be a oem block

This is right from the 2021 PPL rule book.
Just says must be an option from 1 ton or less..nothing about no cast replicas, heck dosent even say no billet blocks anymore, just no billet head. I'd consider a solid CAST block to be okay. the chaos block is cast just like the Hamiltons. I mean a filled block with a deck plate setup was never an option from factory.?? Just how I interpret it I guess.

Yanno what Ryan, People don't actually read the rules, let alone enforce them :stab: bif :shake:

Pretty sure this implies in plain ink with no grey area that any block not an OEM is prohibited. I'm sure people will find ways to twist it to fit their narrative. Regardless, I'm with you and disagree with this but it's in the rules.

I've never seen any bearing issues if you install girdle, torque it, line hone main bore on a stock crank. We have had the wet comp block north of 3k hp with nothing but a girdle, no deck plate, no fire rings in the block, nothing. The only comp Block that has failed to date is the Josh /Powerdriven special at 900 whp with their 30% correction factor so "1200hp". Our initial solids were hell for stout up top but had an OEM bottom end so they have OEM bottom end power ratings. We have probably 50+ running in 2.6/3.0 etc. I don't ask how they will be using them but I see piles of them at pulls. Even saw one with a 4.4" bore at 7.3L running at Scheid. They might be illegal but everybody still runs them. I think a lot of the pulling rules are a joke if they don't even check blocks. I think they should allow Billets, the Chaos ours etc. It would be a lot safer for the sport and save money in the long run.

In the Modified world the big differences in blocks is made by actually stretching the bore spacing out for bigger bore. All classes under use a rule that reads something along the lines of:

“Block must be able to receive and rotate a stock crankshaft”

Maybe it’s time the diesels take yet another rule from the gas world lol
