Heat and A/C issues

Hey guys,

I am having issues with my heat and A/C. For the heat, it will cook you out of the truck if it’s sitting still. Going down the road it cools down. Even with the heat on full blast.

A/C has never been to cold. Cold enough to be semi comfortable but never ice cold. I have recharged with the store bought chargers but last summer the gauge read full when I first plugged it in. Thinking I’ll take it to the shop to have it looked at.

Not sure if both of these issues could be blend door issues or if there could be something else going on. Wanted to exhaust all options before taking it to the shop.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Add free on with die and look for leaks with UV light.
But if heat and AC both suffer, I think you need to pull the HVAC box and take a look.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Dash has to come out to be replaced anyway. So I might as well check it all out.

Any insight to what I should be looking for?

Plan on looking at/ fixing the blend doors, heater core and maybe the blower motor.

I put a ball valve on the heater hose connecting to the heater core to stop flow once it warms up outside and that alone made a huge difference on the AC being colder.

The hose that goes to the head is the supply, correct?

I also just realized that I posted this in the incorrect forum. The truck is actually a 3rd gen. It is an 03... My bad.

I thought you had a 3rd gen.

My 05 started blowing warm on passenger side and kind of cool on driver side last Thursday. It made for a warm weekend.

Ordering new blend doors today.

Me and my brother spent about 6 hours yesterday working on my A/C because the gauges were reading correctly on the pressures, everything else seemed great but it felt like the heater was on instead of the A/C. Pulled the blend door actuator and manually moved the blend door and bam had A/C again. Was just a stupid $40 part but took forever to figure it out.

My '09 have been hanging on the drivers side for two years. It normally takes me 10 minute of messing with the controls to get the drivers side from hot to cold. Any change you will be putting on a clinic on how to replace the blend doors.....or do I just need to drive to Houston? LOL I'm scared as hell to pull the dash.

It is possible to reach under the dash from below the glove box. Find the cables. The cable in the front is the drivers side blend door. I can usually move the lever over to cold and push on the cable and get it to go where I want it. I'm assuming that is a door fault and not a controller fault....just a guess. You can help it move if you are sweating your ass off and have miles to go. No sense in suffering. :D

Jory is that the new name if you’re escort business? Little side hustle?!

I’ll have to check this out. See if I can get it to move and see if it makes a difference. Going in the shop Thursday to look at this issue. Maybe I can figure it out ahead of time.

I assume it can be accessed from the drivers side under the steering column? Does the panel need to be pulled?

That name was not my choosing. That was Tim.

You can't get to it from the drivers side that I know of. If you have an 11 year old with small hands that helps too. LOL

So... truck went into the shop. Shop says the fan clutch isn’t working and there is a small hole in the condenser.

Shop also said that they are having trouble sourcing a fan clutch. That they have been told to go with genuine Mopar fan clutch instead of aftermarket. As the aftermarket fan clutches are no good. Genuine Mopar is in the $420 range.

Looking at the flexi lite electric fans, they are right in that range as well. I have seen the flexi lite fan set ups for around $500. Anyone have any reviews on this set up towing? Does it keep the water temp where it needs to be? If I purchase the flexi lite set up I will definitely be adding an in cab switch to it.

Thanks!

I’d spend $500 on a fan clutch before I went flexilite. They’ve done awesome in my rock crawler builds, but I wouldn’t put them on a towing diesel. Probably wouldn’t put them on a street diesel period. But, opinions vary.
