47rh budget build opinions- ditching the super servo? Shift overlap ?

I finally killed my first rebuild. 30k miles with 350-400 whp. These are the parts the trans had in it-

Stock rebuild kit/clutch count

Performance front band

Stock low band

Spacer in the low servo

Bd flexplate

Precision industries billet input

Tcs output

Red sonnax zero leak accumulator- it has been recommended to go back to the stock piece

Transgo tfod hd2-175 psi line pressure at wot from the accumulator port

4.2 apply lever

Hd strut

Hd anchor

Used steel planetary from a 47re

It was mentioned that the super servo combined with the larger apply lever and higher line pressure that it's probably causing overlap in the 2/3 up shift.

I have a raybestos high energy clutch rebuild kit coming and I planned on runnin extra clutches in each drum. It was also mentioned that extra clutches could also contribute to overlap.

It's a street toy that will see track time again with added power .

Old combo was 026 dv's, 5x.010s , he351, 16* timing, 160 pump, 4ks, 4.10s = 13.71

New combo will be 5x.016s , either a 64, 66, or a 369 if I buy new, 22-26* timing, 180 pump, 4ks, 3.54s = low 12s or better I'm hoping

I also was running 9 springs in my direct drum. I have 9 extra springs from a 727 I'm considering installing them and raising the total spring count.

Any advice for parts and setup would be great.

Recommendations for the forward/direct clearances ? It was .03x" in the forward drum and .04x" in the direct. I followed the spec for a stock trans from my atsg book when I built mine in 2013.

seems awfully tight, I generally run .020 in the forward and .075 in the direct

Best of my knowledge stock is

Forward: .025-.036
Direct: .098-.160

Atleast thats what my atsg manual tells me any way

Off subject but i cant find a way to send pics in a p/m that you requested. Heres my lever that i made years ago. It doesnt limit the throttle and alows the tv to be aggressive per % of throttle given. Btw your clutch clearances are a bit tight.

I typically aim for the middle of spec. I must have remembered it wrong. It was a few years ago.

Thanks.

Was the point of this to just not limit throttle? Or was it more related to the TV

It lets you adjust the TV cable tighter without stretching the cable or bottoming out the lever in the vb.

I had seen a pic of it before in a thread and was searching without luck so I pm'd him and asked for a pic. The 3 posted are what I needed.

I just sat my screw so that it would not allow the TV to go less than 50%. Part throttle the shifts were a little delay, however it guaranteed that I would always have at least 50% TV.

That's how mine is right now. But does that affect how the trans down shifts when your coming to a stop ? Mine would ac up down shifting once in awhile. It started doing it when I raised the line pressure up to 175ish and adjusted the stopper. Maybe it was something else wrong though with mine.

Anyone want to make a second when they make one? Looks like a great way to avoid loosing throttle travel

I saved a spare lever from a 727 core I recently tossed. If I don't burn up my first lever I'll make 2.

As for advice on parts, I ordered the Goerend master kit and it came with more than anything I would have thought needed and also it came with the atsg manual with their revisions and specifications for the trans. Everything in my trans is to the T of how Goerend specified it and so far has been awesome. There's probably 30-40 passes at the drag strip on it and plus driving miles. Also installed billet input, and a 2200 stall triple disk from DPC converters.

An edited book by those guys would be awesome.

Does that stall seem like a good match with the converter ? Just asking because that size turbo you have is one of the few on my list

A billet single, 1700 stall, a block in the converter instead of a dampener spring. I've had it on the truck since the first time I built it. He will cut, clean , install new friction for 150$. He said he would swap me out for one of his triples if I gave him my single and 600$. It cost me 150$ Each way to ship a converter from the lower 48. I have ordered a couple dpc converters in the past for friends.

The converter is from a local builder. He fixes them if I break one. I cracked a stator hub in the past playing with the lockup switch.

Now I just need to decide what stall to use. I'm either going with a 64/74/14, from a local guy here , a 66 if I find a good deal on a used one , or if I buy new it will probably be a 369 .91 ar

The only thing I tow is my 16' river boat or a couple 4 wheelers

4 clutch in forward, .025-.035
5 clutch in direct. .055-.070

That's what I use most of the time.
