Ok one more question, what does one recommend for a fluid in a Garmon transmission? ATF+4? Dextron III?

Are you just running Jeff's valve body and Daves tranny? I use Mopar ATF4, mainly just becasue I get it at cost. I've heard you can still use Dextron though. ROB

Whoops! I was reading one thing and typing another... it all GARMON! I're read to use dextron III with a bottle of lubegard, or use just ATF+4....

I just feel better having ATF 4 in my DD pan. I'm not sure what the price difference is between the two, it can't be that much. You may want to send Jeff a PM to get his thoughts, he knows whats best. Let me know how the VB works out for you..ROB

Almost forgot, Valvoline also makes ATF-4. It may be a little cheaper than the factory stuff even though it's the same formula..ROB

Just got the valve body in. Let me just say that it is AWESOME! Firm and quick shifts. Locks the converter nicely! Shift timing is spot on with correct band adjustment

I thought the converter was stock in this truck...... Lazy lock up. Well I removed the inspection plate to find a blue converter in there. Looks like a billet cover as well. I have no idea what this converter is.... but it couples well and locks up like a champ

When did you get the truck? Is it a recent Garmon built tranny? Cause all of Phil Taylor's (Slowpoke) new Converters from his business "Diesel Performance Converters" are MILLER LITE blue!!!!! lol

Glad you like the Garmon Valve body!!!!

It is unknown what is done to the transmission. It was rebuilt at one time judging from the front band being a bronze color. I am trying to track down the previous owner to get the story on the transmission color. It is a royal blue color.

Looks like a Slowpoke converter to me, I have one too. Swole will be able to tell you for sure. If it is one of his units it's the ****...... Once that baby locks it's all over.

How did the VB install go. I would imagine your still cleaning up, there is no clean way of doing one of those.

Have a great weekend man. Enjoy your VB..ROB

The install took a couple hrs at the most. I have a large catch pan from the farm and home store and a drain plug in the pan.... and I used to work at a performance diesel shop in college. I can drop a pan with the best of them

Sounds good, I'm glad it went good for you. Once you do it once all is well. Now go out and beat the hell out of her, that's what Jeff told me to do with mine. ROB

Just an update...

The valve body is still working great!

I have one gripe though, I was under the impression that it would lock the converter in all gears, well at least 2nd, 3rd and OD. It has the factory lock-up settings (3rd and OD.) I have a lock-up controller which allows lock-up at any speed if the valve body is set up to do so.

Is there a way to get some instructions on what needs to be done to achieve lock-up in 2nd? I assume it is a channel that needs to be opened up to allow the TC circuit to apply when in 2nd.

Far as I know, Garmon sets up all his VB's to lock up in 2nd....But most all his customers use a simple lockup switch tapped into the wire harness for lockup...Flip it anytime you want.... Mine will lock in 1st if I'm not carefull...Got an Intermediate shaft in two piece and a Billet Input in to pieces to prove it!!

Just call him, I'm sure he talk ya through it..

Sounds good, I'll give him a call tomorrow. But it does not lock up in 2nd. I can be driving at 30mph (where the controller is set to lock the converter,) and pull it down into 2nd and the converter unlocks.
