Hard to beat the almost apocalypse proof p7100 in regards to no BS reliability.
As far as power/performance goes, that's a can of worms that will never be settled.

hrvp finally dead pedaled
Something else to consider... VE swap.
Parts are a little harder to source, but can be had considerably cheaper. Don't need conversion lines. Not static timing. Easy starting even in moderately cold weather. Great MPG.
Food for thought.

I just like the habits of a vp truck much better for less than 450hp.
You walk out, hit the key, it starts. They're adjustable.
I feel aside from the odd cases (yours), they're easier to diagnose when a problem does arise. Lots of little things for me.
And with this case, you can't blame it being a vp problem. It's an electrical problem, and that's a damn second gen dodge for ya. I understand it "wouldn't be happening" with a ppump, they are not the end all be all of truck problems.

The lines. Conversion lines are far less reliable than any vp truck in my experiences.

so whats really different from it being a 12v ..like in a 95..cept the 24v head I know..yes its aftermarket but isn't the 7100 pump the same
cruise will work right
the check engine light? on/or off?
do away with my holley pusher pump.
less electrical aftermarket crap..no more fuel guage problems either? or will it stay

Not really any downsides to the pump itself, aside from Static timing is kind of a bummer, but not really an issue on a sub 400hp daily.
The swap is somewhat tedious, and can be intimidating to someone who isn't fairly well versed with this particular platform. Labor WILL get EXPENSIVE. Period.
The thing is, it is a bit of a pointless swap unless you're looking for power. You're not looking for power, and the VP would absolutely do what you want the best. But... you have circumstances that have kinda made the VP less of a viable option...
Idk. I don't want to tell you to swap it. But I don't want you to keep chasing your tail on this thing and wasting more money.
Flip a coin I suppose. Swap it or sell it. That's what "I" would do.
But seriously, look into a VE swap, that sounds like a good compromise for you.

You still need a lift pump and any thing that doesn't work before the swap will not work after the swap. The p7100 will only replace the vp. It doesn't fix all of the electrical issues.

Cruise will still work, if its vacuum operated cruise. Can't remember what yr you said your truck was.
CEL? Tossed it in the trash.
If your gauges work now, they will work after the swap, provided you do it correctly. My 99 did not need a cam sensor adapter, every gauge works correctly. All my ECM does is AC stuff, alternator, etc.
FSS is wired to a key on, no pull cable crap, 100% turn key

02 should be electronic cruise. No worky with pump swap unless you installed the vac cruise setup.
The only down sides are the lines, static timing, and the potential loss of cruise for some.
When I ppumped I only swapped out pumps. Did not change anything else. It hands down kicked the vps ass in driveability.

Fwiw, I "should" be in the high 600s/low 700 area, and static timing still doesn't bother me.
BUT, I don't tow, so there's that.
It's all very relative, solely depends on the end user. We can give pros and cons, arguments for and against, until we are blue in the face, but at the end of the day, only you can determine if it's something you like or not.

02 automatic should still be vacuum cruise. Late 02 manual I believe is electronic. My 02 is vacuum.
