3rd Gen Dyno and Tech Data for aftermarket intercooler.

Does anyone have technical info on aftermarket intercooler?
Egt drop? Intake air temp drop? Pressure drop? Anything to prove an aftermarket intercooler is worth buying. I have seen some results from mishimoto but that was for a 2nd gen. Their intercooler dropped an average IAT by 10*. Wanting to compare Spearco, mishimoto, AFE Bladerunner, On3. All these companies claim egt drop of up to 200* also intake air temp drops. But have not found any proof of what they claim. Thank you
 
Mishimoto has a big write up on the 2nd Gen coolers, but I don't think they have one for 3rd gen. If that helps....
 
Of I could I'd buy one of each. 3 dyno runs with each. And daily driven/towing for a day. Data log everything. Post results.

On a 3rd gen I wouldn't consider replacing the stock metal cooler until you are above 1200hp. I dont know anything about your setup, but most trucks would benefit more from a properly sized turbo setup than an different intercooler.

Airflow improvements should go as follows...

#1 Turbocharger(s)
#2 Aftermarket cam
#3 Head work
#4 Intercooler
#5 Intercooler piping and intake horn IF intake has been milled.

Just my opinion, from some guy on the internet. :bang
 
An intercooler will not be a miracle worker on these trucks. They aren't even needed until higher horsepower numbers as stated above. The intercoolers are quite large in them from the factory.

The stock ones do a pretty good job with cooling, and there's not much of a pressure drop.
I'd upgrade if my stock one ever failed or if I was lucky enough to find the time and money to do a full race truck build.

A cam is going to give you a lot more noticeable difference for a similar price tag.
 
I run a 2nd gen stock replacement mishimoto on my street/race truck. I see 540-575*F pre charge air cooler, and 106-110*F post charge air cooler for peak temps. I was really impressed with how well it works.
 
I blew my stock intercooler. Cast end tanks. Have a 188/220 cam, ported head. Full engine by D&J. I'm mainly just asking for proof of all these companies claims on their products. I dont like spending my money to buy a product that doesn't live up to the claims. I like having real world evidence. The only thing that's left to purchase is a intercooler.
 
Im not sure your air and fuel setup, but when mine pops or i get the extra money im going to go with banks. Ive had good luck with theirs on my duramax dropping egts around 200*++

Thank you for your feedback. I tried filling out my truck specs but nothing was saving. Fuel =250% Air= 66 over 85. Just a grocery getter.
 
Josh, an employee here at the shop just installed an On3 in his 2005 and it was a pretty large and heavy unit, I was impressed with the overall quality considering the price point. We've installed and dyno tested a couple mishimoto 2nd gen CAC and they are much heavier than stock (much larger aluminum heat sink so to speak) but sadly, on the test mule Oscar it didn't pickup a measurable power gain on the chassis dyno.
