That's true but the wear isn't as obvious as say on chains. Also if you have a larger fleet it's impossible to keep track of how old stuff is.

I hauled trucks for 10 years and definitely prefer lever binders for anything with tires, on tracked stuff the ratchet binders are way easier. Maybe if I used the ratchet binders more I'd get used to them but everytime I use them I feel like a monkey having relations with a football and they don't store as easy as a lever.

3/8 chain and up I'd use ratchet, 5/16 I use lever. 4 point tiedown with g70 5/16 is almost 19k I hold 20k on deck.. carrying anything bigger is working harder imo

This.

We rarely haul anything on steel tracks, so we just get by with levers when we do, but that's the only time I want ratchets is for steel tracks.

Chris

We use ratchets on everything usually. Carry a couple levers for somethings.

Our ratchet binders have folding handles and my 9” deep aluminum racks can fit them.

Where is a good place to get a rebuilt vgt for an isx?

Some steel mills here make you show you have been trained on proper use of snap binders and stopped allowing guys to use pipes to snap them. Too many idiots let go of the pipe.

That'd be kinda funny to watch! As with any useful item, when used wrong, it'll hurt!

We used to do that for sport...see how far you could sling it.

What amazes me is how many people I see using lever binders backwards...trying to push the lever away from them. That's a sure fire way to get your teeth knocked out...

Gee, if they only made some sort of chain binder that didn’t require a pipe, bleeding OR having to turn them the correct way. And maybe some that allowed you to get the chains as tight or as loose as you needed without having to re-hook 3 times. Hmmm.....

i never understood the love for snap binders. Ive always preferred ratchet binders, pulling my junk behind my pickup or when i pulled a 48' flatbed it was always much easier to give it a fews turns to snug the chains back up after settling once you get a few miles down the road rather than hooking, unhooking cussing etc.

I did it so much that I was right on the first try 9 times out of 10, and I never got hurt by one. I've had way less problems with snap binders. Idk, I guess it's just what you're you used to.
