1967 RS Duramax Camaro

I was able to finish welding and grinding the trans tunnel once the motor was out. I can pull the motor and tranny in one piece now, when I couldn't before with the old, slightly smaller tunnel.

I decided that I will eventually install a Vintage Air heater/ac system down the road, so I smoothed the firewall by making a block off plate for the old heater box.

It's amazing how many extra pieces I have been able to make out of the leftover wheel tubs and trunk floor sheet metal.

And finally spread a coat of short strand everglass over it.

I needed to build a support for the battery, so I used some leftover angle iron.

And installed the new tray with a mock up battery.

I also decided that since the removable back brace wasn't really practical for the camaro, I cut it out and welded a solid tube of dom in its place.

And now it was finally time to start prepping the floor and trunk for seam seal and undercoating, as well as prepping out the roll cage for paint.

So I moved it into our booth Friday after work.

Saturday morning I realized that I forgot to make the last 4 close out panels for the inner rockers that need to be welded to some of the trunk floor, which had to be done before I sprayed the undercoating...

Sprayed the self etching primer first, then white sealer (no pics), then viper red. My fiance stopped by and took a few pics of me spraying.

And installed the fuel cell before I left this afternoon.

That cage is gonna look wicked once you get the car into paint.

I like the idea on the tunnel too, makes sense to do it that way.

A lot is going to happen over the next month and a half. Sadly I won't be racing at the Jefferson State Diesel Nationals on May 18th, but it might be running by then. Regardless, I'm going to tow it up there just so people can see it.
 
Its been fun reading this and Supersonic's threads. I wish I had your skills. Simply amazing what you've accomplished.
 
^agreed. The cage looks awesome sprayed red. What is the plan for taping it off when you paint the next color.

I put the car through a bake cycle in the booth after I finished spraying so it was plenty dry the next morning. I've already stuck tape to it and it doesn't leave an impression. So when I get around to spraying some satin black on the remaining interior panels and the dash it won't take much effort to tape and paper off the cage tubing.

I did want to ask why you opted for a vacuum assist brakes? Are you going to use a vacuum pump/canister of some kind? Will the OEM LBZ vacuum pump work?
Just curious why you didnt just adapt the DMax hydroboost/master cyl to the car? HD trucks all had 4 wheel disc brakes.

LOL It must look bigger in the pictures than it really is. It gets the job done and its a very good booth, but when we have to fit a lot of parts on stands or a 4 door long bed F350, it gets cramped quickly.

I decided to go with the traditional vacuum booster because I have 2 electric vacuum pumps sitting in my tool box, one that was on the Camaro previously, and another brand new one I bought for my old K20 and never installed. I considered tracking down a hydroboost setup from a Duramax truck, but I've seen many of them on the trucks we work on at the shop and I was worried about the amount of space, and how much modification I would need to do to the firewall and brake pedal assembly to get it to function properly.
