Convince me .... nv5600 to auto swap
Truck info is in my sig. After driving the truck with the nv5600 for several months, I have an inkling for an auto. The nv5600 has many positives but stop light to stop light is not one of them. Id like the truck to be quicker off the line and be able to build boost. It is not a work truck (more of a toy) and wont pull anything heaver than a open deck car hauler with a race car on it when I use it to tow.
Ive looked into an allison conversion mainly a at540 but they have no OD and no lock up capabilities. Some of the adapters have cab fitment issues if an a1000 is used.
What is the best Dodge trans option? I am only interested in a full manual vb. Since the truck is lighter than most, can I expect a longer life than some of the very short lived trans stories ive seen on here? Rebuilding every 6 months is not something I want to deal with.

5600 to 48re felt like adding 100 plus hp to me.
Easier to drive, more fun to drive.
Lots of 47rh/re and 48re info here.

Yeah, the 47rh, 47re, and 48re are all plenty strong for anything you've got and drive great.
You could do a super easy swap with a manual valve body, or you might be able to have the PCM reflashed to run the 47re. You'd have to deal with the shifter because sourcing those parts could be tough unless you just want to do a ratchet shifter (easy and fun).
I know a lot of people have been really happy with goerend for daily driving, and firepunk for competition/hot rod street-ish.
But really you could do some homework, buy some hard parts, and get it together with just what you need for cheap.

Thanks for the info. Ive got some reading to do. The truck does not have a pcm at all currently which is why I am leaning full manual. I think a ratchet shifter would be awesome in the truck.

They are so much fun. The only reason I don't have one is because my wife said she wont drive my truck if I get one. She is usually my co-pilot on 24+ hour drives, so that would make it annoying. I've got two close friends with them and I LOVE them. In the mean time, I have gotten good at shifting the shifter, and my VB doesn't do the thing where it jumps to neutral for a half second like stock ones do.
You wont regret a 47re, built, with a manual VB, when you boost launch, instantly hit lock up, shift twice, then push to go into OD. It feels much faster than any manual, and really makes it feel more like a race truck.

I switched and am just now getting a little road time with mine and love it. So much more fun to drive and boosted launches are awesome. I have a ratchet shifter and its great. Only thing I wish is I would have got a 47RE instead of a RH. T-case mates up better to a RE and the make billet output shafts if desired.

For what it's worth I would much rather have an auto vb than full manual. But I drive my truck a lot. Pretty sad story im too lazy to go back to an auto vb. haha

It's sooo much more fun than trying to make a 5600 go fast. You think it'll be alot of shifting (manual vb) in traffic but once you get used to it it's second nature. Do it

I have a full manual vb in my drag car and have had them in the past. I like driving with them. Never driven one in a truck though. Some of the sticky write ups are encouraging to build it myself.
The nv5600 is a fresh build from Midwest Trans and has maybe 1000 miles on it.

I daily drove a manual vb in my sbc toyota for a couple years, as long as the shifter is in a comfortable position and you don't have to reach for it every time it's not bad. I used a quarter stick, can't stand ratchet shifters for driving.

A quarter stick moves positions like the original shifter right? Just a floor mounted style?
I'm curious to see it.
