4wd transmission in a 2wd

Hey guys I am needing some advice. I am in the middle of building a 2wd shorty 12v drag truck and I have a few questions. I am ditching the 47rh for an all billet manual vb 47re I bought from a buddy. I called around and every transmission shop said stay with the 4wd style billet output shaft. My question is how can I adapt the output to a drive shaft? The shaft is only like 1.5" long. Any help would be appreciated!

You could do a bolt on yoke, just have to drill and tap the shaft.

That's a good idea. Has anyone put a 4wd style Trans in a 2wd?

In for this. My rh has served me well since I rebuilt it but if I ever lose the output this is the route I would like to go.

I believe suncoast makes an adapter for the 4wd to be a slip yoke style.

It's diesel related, and being used in a race truck. There is no part of any of this cheap!

I think the suncoast setup is around $1500. The output shaft is a 32 spline and uses a turbo 400 slip yoke.

The Suncoast setup also comes with the machined O/D housing. I'd definitely recommend it. Mine was purchased through Firepunk. FYI, I don't think it's a stocked part so the lead time is a little longer than off-the-shelf.

Is there any other option beside the suncoast $1500 piece? Just kind of sucks since my Trans already has a billet output.

Firepunk may be able to give you a partial credit for your billet output?

You could also go with a 2wd billet output shaft. We now have one in the Junker Drag Truck and we've built a couple 2wd race transmissions with them, so far we haven't had any billet 2wd output shaft breakage.... The billet 2wd shafts run in the mid $800 range and come with the factory 2wd 30 spline setup not 32 spline like the suncoast units, but they are much longer so they should handle shock loading well since they are like a big long torsion bar/spring. Until we break one, it's hard to say which is stronger, or if it even matters.

I did a write up a lil over a year ago.. fyI your not buying the suncoast kit for anywhere near $1500 lol.. I had right around $3k after it was all said and done driveshaft and all and im a dealer for them.. Rusty at tcs arizona has since finished his billet 2wd shafts that were not available at that time, however no governor gear so no speedo but you wont have one with the suncoast unit either. Here is a link to the writeup I did with all the part #s you will need if you go the suncoast route.

Thought you bought one of those conversion kits from blacks? I guess the problem with the 4wd shaft is not having long enough splines to fit a yoke? Curious to see how it all works out.

Make sure you order the right yoke from Mark Williams.. Its a roller bearing th400 yoke, not just a standard th400 yoke..
