Bye Ronnie!

Just heard the news... One of the most famous stick shakers of our time has passed on. Ronnie Sox has passed away, sometime last week. We all remember him as "Mr.4 Speed".

Watching him shoe the ol Sox and Martin Mopars was awesome. He always had that front end boinging up off the line. And his shifts as he stirred the gears was flawless! He will be always honored and remembered in my home.

Ronnie will be missed.

Brings back memories when I was in high school building my old W2 roller 340 for my 70 challenger. Back then I wasn't surfing diesel sites but rather reading about these guys.

First time I saw him was 43 years back at the strip in Mobile. The two I always remembered from that time span was Ronnie and Big Daddy. What memories..
Thanks Jeff for letting us know.

Clipping on Ronnie from the National Dragster

Just opened up my new National Dragster and spotted this little clipping:

Pro Stock great Ronnie Sox dies

Ronnie Sox, long reguarded as one of the greatest four-speed drivers ever and voted number 15 on NHRA's list of Top 50 drivers, died April 22 after a long battle with cancer. He was 67.
The longtime racing partner of Buddy Martin was the winningest Pro Stock driver(9 victories in 23 events) during the short-lived four-speed era of 1970 through 1972. He also claimed six Super stock victories from 1967 to 1969. His skills as a four-speed driver in match races, ranging from his lumbering full-size Chevys in the early 1960's to his injected. nitro-burning Barracuda Funny Car in 1966, are also a part of drag racing lore.

A career retrospective will be in next weeks issue.
