Do you really want to use a stock Cummins retainer, with a aftermarket spring , absolutely not ! MaxSpool engineering will only use the more expensive dual springs with a Heat treated Chrome moly retainer.
Surprise its the same price charged for the single spring without a retainer.
So for the rest of the month MaxSpool dual springs and retainers are on sale for $495

MaxSpool Engineering has developed the finest high performance valve train components for hard working diesel engines. To maintain your diesel engines reliability, when asking for more performance you need to use only the finest components. MaxSpool engineering offer’s the latest technology in alloy and heat treating, achieving industry leading performance. MaxSpool engineering dual valve springs are designed from the ground up for the Cummins 4 valve application. Others market a single spring from the Ford 4.6 4 valve. MaxSpool engineering’s dual spring cancels out harmonics and provides the necessary control of the valvetrain. MaxSpool engineering tops this spring with a heat treated Chrome Molly retainer designed for reduced mass and increased strength

From the Drag Strip to Bonneville, sled pulling to the hot street MaxSpool is leading the pack. My experience is second to none in valve train and cam profile development on the Cummins and other diesel platforms. I have 25 years’ experience in high performance engine development.

I bought 40 sets of forged rods a while back on a whim. Call Dave at D&L, 940 766 1357 he was building them . He does a great job , Shot peening them resizing then with new bushing on the little end and the pin oiling modification. along with good bolts

I was kind of thinking billet. This is going to be a very big HP engine, and I don't want the rods to be the weak point
