Trans Filter Question - Its Apart Right Now Help!
Changing the fluid and filter in my 97 right now and when took the old filter off I noticed there is no gasket or anything between the filter and where it mates up to the transmission. Is there supposed to be something there that I'm missing? Im trying to get it back together right now so any insight would be great! This is the kind of filter it had/im putting in.

Ok thats good to hear. Do some of the filters need a gasket? I just pulled up the pan I have and it looks like it shows two gaskets. One for the valve body to drop block side and one for the filter side?

^That is correct; I have 2 hughes kits on my trucks and both are installed that way.

****, its already back together with a gasket between the drop block and the vb and the filter straight to the drop block. Why didn't the new filter come with a new gasket if its needed? Where can I get one? Seems weird to have a gasket between filter material and metal seems like it wouldn't help. Is that just a hughes thing?

Never had a gasket between my filter block spacer and vb or the block and filter. Never even seen one on a regular filter to vb. Make sure your running the high flow filters that parts stores sell for the 94-98s. The newer 98-2007 filters have the shield on them that seems to hurt flow but they all fit the same.

Ok, after taking to a few other friends they dont remember a gasket either when they changed theirs. I'm running the one that is all filter element and not the one with the shield.
