So how much pilot duration is required? I read an article also saying that the closer you could get pilot to main the more efficient the combustion event would be. Any thoughts on the least amount pilot required to do it job and least amount of timing?

On my 5.9 I like to run fairly low pilot qty right now I'm only calling for 2-3mm3 with max of about 20° pilot timing. The only thing I noticed is that my truck wants the stock qty at the very low rpms during cranking otherwise it puffs some white smoke

What did you do with the pilot multiplier tables? I see they have some decent multiply but it doesn't seem to actually effect it. I set my mm3 to a flat 5 but was wondering what duration you call for at 2-3mm3?

The pilot multiplier tables are actually limiters, for both the timing and qty. I found this out a while ago. Makes sense if you actually multiply out the numbers in there. It would be silly if it was an adder.

As far as the duration I don't really put in any effort to hit a target, but mine runs 300-160 uS for the most part. My pilot duration table is stock and I never mess with it.

EDIT: Someone else discovered this as well quite a while ago.

Thanks, that clarifys things better. I guess my bottom goal is to minimize pilot quantity and timing while still retaining the quieter sound. So that's what I'm currently searching for is the bottom line required.
