i don't think that you "can't" shift a 4500 fast (definately not as fast as a 5.0 liter. i've driven both. until quadzzeeburnout was driving my 5.0 and a ford-tore a$$ decided to re-arrange my front end a bit. but i think it is more, you can't shift them without doing serious damage to your syncros every time you slam that collar over the dog teeth on the blocker ring and speed gears. and keep in mind, those big beefy gears aren't whats transfering your power. its those itty bitty dog teeth taking the power from the speed gears and transfering it to the hub which is splined to the output shaft. you beat up those dog teeth enough and your looking at some very expensive parts to get that gear or gears back. just a thought.
