Lease/rent?
I'm trying to figure out a way to justify buying a 1066, and some sort of lease/rental thing is what I'm wondering about. What I'm considering is trying to setup something with a person I think I can trust to use the tractor as they need, and just pay me ×× amount per hour used? The other thing to mention is the person I'm considering asking about this has already agreed to store the tractor for me if I buy it, as I have no place for a 1066 on my 1/2 acre lot. I'm not looking to "make" money with this setup, just trying to get the wife on board, and get my foot in the door to farm. I can get a pretty good deal on the tractor, new rear tires, wheel weights, suitcase weights, rops/canopy. Everything works and operates as it should, including T/A.

If the guy is storing it for you for free I would expect a few hours of use to compensate him. Maybe talk with him and see if he would even use it and go from there. If you can get it for a good deal and have a place to store it I do not see why you don't buy it. Preparing for the future is always a good thing.

Yeah, really I'm fine with him using it and treating it like he's borrowing it, the old "you break it, you bought it" motto. Just trying to figure something out to help tip the wife in my direction! I used to do a bit of field mowing for people, but I haven't really had the extra time with 3 youngsters, 5yr 4yr and 1yr. I'd like to get back into that, only busy on the weekends, once or twice a month would be nice.

I think your better off trying to make money with it, buy a brush hog or other attachment and find some work for it. I think you'll be money ahead. Plus, then you wont have to worry about if something breaks while someone else is using it.
But, if your set on renting it, i would figure out an hourly rate, day rate, week rate, month rate.

I can get it for about 10k. Not a complete steal, but seems a few grand under market for similar tractors in the region.

Don't have a good spot for one, and I'd still have to go through my township with zoning restrictions. Also, depending on what you're doing, you actually don't need to own any land, I'd say, around here anyway, most of the farmed ground is leased not owned.

Just remember, that thing can cost you $2500 in an instant...T/A's are trash.
Other than that, if you can afford it, and justify the cost for WHY you want it, then go for it. Price isn't hateful, and they are slid old tractors other than the T/A.

To clarify, if the t/a goes, the direct gears still work correct? Just no low side? Probably wouldn't see any heavy work, guy I talking about makes hay, no tillage work. Also no intentions of adding power, not going down that never ending financial path!

I had to look that "T/A" thing up. Wasn't familiar with the red stuff or its acronyms. Interesting. I guess the 4020 just makes enough power it doesn't need to amplify it?

🤣🤣🤣🤣 only about ~50-60hp difference. Be about like comparing my JD H with my Farmall M's, 12hp and 2200lbs, vs 40hp 5500lbs.
If you're stuck on green, the 4430 would be the actual competing model.

Never drove one either! Just like tractors so much I spend way too much time reading about them! The 806 would be the red competitor to your green weenie.
I'm also becoming less color obsessed as I age, and come to try appreciating all of the tractor options. Definitely still have my favorites though!

I've been listening to growincorn2020 and nmccormick1066 alot on ticktok and their pod cast. They are hilarious and a wealth of tractor knowledge. And Cody Gayer's rant on the 4020 is nothing shy of hilarious. Now, have a shitty evening and go F yourself.

Does anybody have any advice on how I can become redneck enough to listen to tractor podcasts? They sound like a lot of fun, but I just don't feel like I'm there yet.

Honestly, they are lots of fun. Go drive around in a field for hours on end chasing your tail. It's better than counting fence posts.
Go look up growincorn2020 on TikTok. Give a few of his videos a listen. You can't bitch if you don't vote!
