Nitrous....

I know its been beat to death, and I did a lot of reading on here... but most of the examples, sizing, terminology I'm not sure how it transfers over to me.

I am moving from 1500ft elevation to 5500ft elevation. I know this is going to bring the suck on me.

Also, instead of cramming a crap load more fuel in, curious if I could squeeze a little more power out with what I'm at now.

The first thing to get out of the way is that its a 6.9 IDI.....

I dynoed @ Erics Automotive in Enumclaw Wednesday and did 356rwhp/674rwtq on his Mustang

I'm not sure what you might be able to tell me from exhaust and gauges, but these two video's were filmed at the same time... different cameras (obviously)

My .91 T4 housing is a little sluggish on bottom, as you can see in the video, and dyno sheet... I feel like hitting it with a little bit of juice might benefit me....

A little nitrous would help make up for the lack of air, but I don't think you'd need much.

Not too shabby for an old 6.9, although the only 6.9 I've ever driven was a friend's in high school, thing was a turd, it was stock.

damn, that pretty impressive.

Thanks

This is part of why I made the thread, not sure how what I've found in other threads correlates over to mine. 50shot? 100 shot? Does it look like I have enough extra fuel as is to benefit a little power gain?

Yeah, they are turds in most forms. The biggest obstacles for us to get over, was to get fuel out of the rotary pumps. This pump I have right now does 130cc's from 1400 to gov. We have another doing 156cc's.

Here is the engine/truck:

Nice numbers! What can the bottom end of those take? Headstuds?

I'd start with a .030 jet and just work my way up 'til it slows down, then go down a size. That's how I do mine anyway. I usually go up in about .010 increments.

Not sure on what the bottom end can take... Never seen one blown apart from power LOL Bottom end is comparable to a forged rod 7.3, a lot of specs identical.

I think the biggest downfall at this point is the lack of gasket options... the ones I have, are the best there is...... I am decompressed and studded though.

Thanks for the sizing advice, that is what I was looking for. As I said, I could increased the roller to roller on my pump to get some more fuel, but with the upcoming move to Colorado, I'd like to experiment with nitrous first, then more fuel. I just wasn't sure if this was a viable option, as I know it takes fuel... to use nitrous...

Agreed. Danny, you sure know your spray! :hehe:

based on my video with boost gauge... how early do you think I can spray it?

I know the key is to probably just put it on, and start playing with it, which is what I intend to do, but in the meantime I'd like to get an idea of what I'm working with... as this is completely new to me.

Are the progressive controllers worth the dough?

I loved my progressive controller because I just needed one jet. You can simulate a .020 jet by turning a .136 jet on at 5% PWM. It also helped keep the rear tires from going up in smoke at the 300' mark.

You can see how it ramps in with the night video. The nice thing is that it resets everytime I lifted.

^^^^

Thats nasty.

Right now I have a ZF5, but will be going to a built 4R100 soon... progressive controller sounds like its worth the money.

Now, I've been reading the benefits and all of the ploys to get you to purchase kits on various manf websites and diesel sites. Some even claim that if you are already clearing smoke.. nitrous will still give you some more.... any truth to that?

EDIT:

I know ultimately the best answer is to jump up my fuel.... I can go from my current 130cc to a 160cc, I just want to wait and see how its going to act in Colorado.

My '04 6.0 with stock injectors and turbo smoked very little at wot but I was still able to go from 13.3's to 12.5's.

I've always used the TS 2 stage kit. I've never used a progressive kit but everyone I know that has swears by them. I'm the same way about my TS kits though. LOL

Very cool.

I think I'll stick with the pump I have now... find a n2o kit, and start playing around, then decide if I want more fuel.

I know my questions are trivial, and this is a competition site... but 360rwhp from a 6.9 IDI is serious bidness:lolly:

I appreciate you guys for the advice.....:nos:
