Killer Dowel Pin question

Anybody ever figure out a way to tell if the KDP has been addressed on a new to them truck. I’d rather not pull the timing cover to find out it’s been done. Any luck with an inspection camera? I haven’t tried but wondering if I could get in there. Or is there some easy way to tell that I don’t know about but we can all laugh when I find it out. Or should I just quit being a lazy bastard (flat rate tech who never wants to work on my own stuff more than what’s necessary to get driving again) Hahahaha

I imagine if you were really skilled with a borescope, you could just spin the oil fix elbow off and look pretty quick.

I am pretty sure I'm not skilled enough to see via borescope though.

Some drill the actal timing case and install a countersunk machine screw to retain tab....

If it has a timing case that's made to retain the dowel pin, you're going to struggle to tell that with a borescope.

I tried looking with the camera yesterday. No luck. Guess I gotta pull the cover. Thanks for the input guys.
