Assuming Optima Red Tops are still the "thing?"

I guess it's time. The -12F finally whipped them.....they are only around 8-9 years old I think.

Anything out there comparable or better than a good old fashioned Optima Red Top 34/78 set of batteries before I drop $500 effin' dollars on them again?

Searching the forum didn't show me much. And since the effin nazi bastards at Facebook banned me for 3 days because I threatened someone's life....even though it was the life of the furry little ground hog that predicts weather...I got no where else to go for good advice.

Went the group 31 route.... odyssey 2150t as a single does awesome as a single so bet twice as good x2.....I was surprised it fit honestly. I avoided red tops after I had one in an old setup show signs of swelling.

Optimas nowadays are not what they once were. If it makes you feel good to overpay for some red plastic and a little label, go for it

I put red top in my 12V in '07. Warrantied one of them out early on over a post, both were junk by 2012.
The only thing they did well was come back from a deep cycle. Otherwise 5 yrs is commonplace for battery life.

There's discount codes all over the place for them if you order right from Optima. I usually end up paying less for Optimas than most generic brands these days.

Jory-If you want an Optima I will PM you my code. I think it's 40% discount.

I got 9yrs out of a single odyssey, group 27 I think. Neighbor gave me a cheapo new group 31 battery to replace it, 2 or 3yrs ago. Granted I hardly drive the truck anymore, but drove it the past two days, and it cranked slow after work not being plugged in. Would kinda like to go back to an odyssey.

Jory, check Walmart or Sam’s for their AGM 34/78 batteries. For the price and warranty, nothing compares. Optima’s quality had diminished sense acquired by Johnson.

Sam’s is Duracell. Walmart is everstart. It’s the same battery, different label. That’s all will run going forward.

Well, that's why I asked. I didn't know if they were still as good as they once were. I've ran red tops in three duallys now and I've never had any trouble out of any of them. Seems like I get 7-9 years out of them on average and they start way better than anything else I've tried.

I'll look into the others mentioned before I pull the trigger.

Thanks, you'ins. (probably spelled Snedge's term wrong but I tried)

High quality batteries don't exist anymore. Just buy some cheapo Rural King Exide batts and a jump pack to keep around when you meet the inevitable

We've had good luck with the ford Motorcraft batteries too.

Interstate MT27 in my 95 truck. I think it was 12* here yesterday when I cranked the truck. Single battery and no grids so it took a second or two haha. Hopefully it lasts a good while. Seems like I used to always hear the Interstate name but not anymore. It’s all AGM now.

Shame Ford vehicles can't say the same. (Speaking from multiple experiences)

Most people who actually own a shop/work on trucks for a living say this. We have only ever sold interstate. The warranty is good, but we rarely ever use it. No questions asked if one goes bad within the time frame. No questions asked on the pro-rating as well. And much cheaper than the Optimas. Buy from a local dealer. Im sure most could use the boost right now, even though you only make a couple bucks on them

Good to hear. I’ve only had mine for a year. Sold the other one to a friend who uses it on his house boat.
