dt466 swap
I was able to find me a low milage dt466 for my ford project and the guy doesnt want that much for it. i was wanting to go with a 12 va for dependablity and horsepower. Does anyone no how a dt466 would compare to a old 12 va. The motor is also p pumped

Alot bigger engine than a 5.9 Cummins. Probably will need to do some firewall fabrication to get it to set back enough to clear the radiator and such. There are a few threads on here with the 466 conversions.

It would be neat. its been done before.
If i were to do it i think i would extend the front clip a few inches to make it fit. So everything would be easier to work on in the long run.

Nice thing about a DT466 is you could bolt-on jake brakes.

p pump is just like any other p pump some difference but pretty much the same from what i have heard they are pretty stout motors, There was one in a f350 i beleive the radiator was is the bed and he used for sled pulling how much power he was getting out of it i dont know.

They had 2 style inline pumps, only 93-95 had the true "P" pumps, the older ones had an MW pump
Low buck diesel power | turn up your fuel rate for free, or almost
Jacob's doesn't list a "jake" brake but an exhaust brake. We had three of these motors and you could only get an exhaust brake, not a Jake.

I've never heard that one, and I've been a 466 fan for a few years.
Yes, the 466 is quite a bit bigger(taller and longer) than a 6BT. I tried a 466 swap into a Super Duty a few years ago. It's going to be a lot of work to fit it in. Your limits on power will depend on how deep your pockets are. The 466 is some serious machinery.

Turn to pump mods up to about 450hp. The real problem is the pump. They used 10mm plungers in most of them, and the 6BT got 12mm. You can run some wild power numbers with reliability, it's the driveability that suffers. Simply depends on what you're doing with it.
to further ID the engine, does it have the bolt-on intake manifold like a traditional 6cyl, or is it part of the valve cover(opening on the very top)?

plan is to run a water to air intercooler. And make the piping go around the truck for cooling. This is a obs ford and im trying to go after have the cleaness one out there so this dt466 project is gonna look factory

Ok, you must have the older generation, prior to 93. Lots of aftermarket parts for those! pulloff.com has a great classified section for Kornbinders.

The 466E made its way in mid-late 95, BUT you could order a mechanical one up thru 97. The 93-97 are what's called the NGD(new generation diesel), and came stock with a P-pump, mounted up high. I'll add the pix of the 2 generations. Note the intake and valve cover differences. I hope you can see the intake elbow on the newer one.
I know, it's Frank's truck, but it's the only pic I had of a full side shot of an older 466.

I found out that the motor was a 94 module p pump motor. Also from what information that i have gathers about this motor it looks as if i will need to put a 3 inch body lift on this truck. Im also in the market for a 13 speed tranny or a allsion with torque converter lock up

The DT466 will be hard to get in there.... The DT360 might be a better bet...
But a DT466 in a OBS would be one sweet combo.. 1500 HP is easy on them.. the one in the pictures is 2000 plus maybe 3000.. I cant remember

Has anyone seen how well the cooling is with the rad in the bed? I'm considering running a dt in a obs centurion cc lb dually. The piping down the frame alone will help cool but it's the airflow in the bed that worries me being that normally it's a vortex near the cab of turbulent air. Anyone know anyone who may have an idea?
