Ram 2500 6BT 12V downgrade to 4BT 8V

I am Interested to knew, have somebody ever done this kind of downgrade.

From fully functional quad ,long bed 4x4 Ram 2500 with Cummins 6BT 12V , 47RE and NV241 to

4BT p-pump (200hp) with 47RE and NV242 ( full time 4wd) lowered.


In theory the NV242 should survive with approx 200 hp ,and bit lighter truck and smaller wheels.

I knew in internet have lots of 4BT swap trucks, from Gas truck to 4BT, but so far none have downgrade from 6bt to 4bt.

I would like to discuss about fuel economy and full time 4wd.

Any info will welocme

I don't believe it's really worth it. Contrary to popular belief, smaller displacement doesn't equate to better fuel economy. How much fuel you use is determined by how much power it takes to move a given amount of mass at a given rate of velocity and acceleration. The only advantage that a 4BT may have concerning fuel economy is it's a little lighter than a 6BT, therefore it will require a little less energy to push a little less mass.

Another way of saying this is, if it takes say 50 hp to maintain 55mph, it won't matter how big or small the engine is, so long as it can produce 50 hp. The amount of fuel it takes to feed 50 hp worth of power is the same no matter the number and size of the pistons (Minus the small frictional differences which won't mean much)

Bottom line is the amount of work needed isn't worth it, unless you're trying to replace a bad engine with a good but different one.

How you going to gain mpg when you add 4wd.

From my experience , lifting truck with bigger wheels added fuel consumption , so lowering and smaller wheels should reduce it.

Also reducing weight should help.

The transfer cas swap to full time 4wd should keep the consumption same, because the rotating mass will remain the same.

Even with NV241 the front driveshaft will rotate.

The 4bt and Awd swap is econimically nonsens, its more like fun and test purpose.
