yes another mpg problem!

ok so i had a trip this weekend of just under 300 miles, all highway minus 50miles city. so i was expecting the truck to pull some great mpg! i drove 65(in ohio) and 70(in west virgina) it never got more then 14lbs of boost, and never got over 1000*, these boost # and temps were in the city in WV. so it should of done good right! WRONG only 18.2 mpg!!! i get 17 in the city and not really babying it! how am i only getting 1 mpg better on the highway?????

please help!

What gears? Get a good tranny in there, or at least a tighter torque converter, so you're not wasting fuel while accelerating either.

My in town mileage is only 13 I have gotten around 21 but this was cruising about 50 mph (no boost) I get about 16 at 75 (10-12 lbs of boost) less if I drive faster the key seems to be keeping the Boost low or none. I am tempted to try and disconnect the Boost reference to the afc to see if that helps. Rich

What kind of tires are you running, and what size?

Are those radials? That style of tire isn't very well suited to mpg. I've seen some mud style tires return relatively good mpg, but most of the time, they don't do well. I had some cheap bargain mudders on my truck when I got it, and upgraded to a set of Cooper Discoverer ATR's, all terrain, and gained a solid 2 mpg on the highway.

I got 18.8 mpg on my last tank of daily driving. Mainly 50-60mph driving on some curvy roads with rolling hills. That wasnt driving extremely easy, but definately not hard most of the time. I have 265 Kuhmo M/T's on my truck right now.

I have gotten 22mpg on the interstate. Im not sure why you arent getting any better than 18 on the open road. Timing looks good. is your fuel filter clean?

Eric
