Abnormal tire wear
The very outside edges of my front tires have worn almost bald in the last few weeks. What could cause them to wear like that? Rest of the tread is fine.
I can twist the tie rod fairly easily (which seems too loose to me), and the link between the hubs also if I really put some effort into it. The ball joints still seem solid.

You probably have too much toe in. Measure front and back on the tires to a reference point and it should be almost exactly the same. Usually 1/16" to 1/8" narrower in the front to help with wandering. Or go have it professionally aligned on a machine.

I was afraid you'd say that. That means that link is shot then. I have never adjust the toe on this truck. Damn it. I'll probably replace with OEM since this one lasted so long.

Upgrade to the 98+ steering now if you don't have it now. I have all the part #s somewhere if you need them

Abnormal tire wear
The only thing that won't work is the factory steering stabilizer if you have the haltenberger linkage setup and not the 98+

I've heard that before. Whats better about it? I can't say I've looked under the front of a 98.5+ truck in years, I can't remember how it's different.

I had to google haltenberger. Found a neat little video. My tie rod is definitely shot. I don't know about the ?drag? link between the 2 hubs though. Should I be able to twist it forward/backward at all?
And steering stabilizer won't be an issue, I can make it work.

In a haltenberger setup you have one link that goes from the pitman arm to the passenger side knuckle then the left side knuckle attaches with another link mid way up the first link. On the 98+ (or HD steering) you have one solid tie Rod that goes knuckle to knuckle and one link that comes from the pitman arm to that tie Rod.

This is mine. To me it looks like the heavy duty setup in that picture. Is the only difference between the 2 setups that the tie rod connects closer to the hub?

You've got the 98-99 HD T style steering. Which makes sense since it's a 98 .

You already have the better setup so whatever joint is bad you can just look at the diagram I posted and the moog part numbers are all listed there

Being a 12 valve means I never have the luck with upgraded parts lol.

Before I just go and order everything, should I focus on the tie rod, or the link between the hubs? Is that called a drag link? That piece is looking like 200 bucks to replace. Might have to just rotate the tires and wait another paycheck. I've already ordered the tie rod pieces though.
Or should I just replace everything anyways?
And could you type out the part numbers? I can't tell if some of the 5's are S's or what

Also, while we're on part numbers, anyone have any for the sway bar end links? Its been 4 years since I've had it on the truck and I'm starting to miss it
