Super Stock Tractor questions?

What motors are the Unlimited Super Stock Tractors required to run? Are they required to run the same brand block as what the tractor is? As in if the tractor looks like a Deere its got to be a Deere Block? The reason I ask is I heard them talking about V8's but Ive never seen a V8 in a factory tractor unless I haven't seen a large enough one.

Thanks

ulss tractors can run basically whatever you want as long as its under 650ci and loosely came in a tractor. The engine doesn't have to match the hood on any class running a component chassis(non ag rearend). The rules originally only allowed engines from 2wd tractors. But somehow a 903 cummins got in which was used in 4wd tractors and now there a handful off them.

KJP is correct. The big V8's you see are 903 Cummins. They were offered in 4wd tractors and are definitely a source of controversy as to whether or not they should be allowed.

The major associations allow engines that never came in a tractor but also ban ones that are 100% factory. Never made much sense to me. There are tractors that run the v8 engines that use perkins or a 3208 cat but those both came in 2wd tractors unlike the decubed 903 cummins. Maybe the person that started 903 cummins craze will chime in. He is a member here but doesn't post very often.

ok thanks. My first thought when I heard V8 I was thinking Powerstroke or Duramax. I couldnt imagine them using those but I could be wrong.

V8 powered tractors from the top of my head:

2255 Oliver, 3150 or 3208 CAT
2-180 White, 3208 CAT

1150 Massey, AV8.510 Perkins
1155 Massey, AV8.540 Perkins
2745 Massey, AV8.540 Perkins
2775 Massey, AV8.640 Perkins
2805 Massey, ATV8.640 Perkins

I think that's all the fixed frame V8's that were factory.

Articulated 4wd used all kinds of V8's...some V6's in the old Versatiles and Steigers.

476 Cummins V8
555 Cummins
903 Cummins

6V71 Detroit
8V71 Detroit

DV800 IH

3208 CAT

There were even some of the bigger V12 and V16 Detroit's used, along with a Scania V8 or two in some old Case's, some V12 and V10 Deutz's, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more. V8's were used A TON in tractors, and contrary to popular belief, they didn't all blow up. Lots of them are still running, and some people actually liked them.

They seem to do very well in the pulling classes too.
