timing cover change
i want to do a p-pump on my 99 24v.i know the timing cover and case has to be swaped.i heard the cam has to be removed to swap the case.is this true?

yep... To get the case out you need to pull the cam...

Good time to swap in a cam huh? It really isnt as bad because you are going to have everything off the side of the motor plus you will want to replace your tappet cover with one from a 12valve for the crankcase vent, mite as well hold the tappets up and go for it. You kill two birds for one labor money. Tim

When I did mine, I regretted not swapping a cam in at that time. I didn't want to break in a cam at the same time as a new to me fuel system. But it fired up and ran so well the first time, it wouldn't have been bad at all.

swaping the cam would be a good idea,but the motor is in a freightliner fl60.
horsepower is not the main concern,relibity is!sleeping at the truckstop and waking to the truck stalling out because of the vp44 going out sucks!!!!!
it has 155k miles and 3 pumps!
it is a 215hp '99 model with a 60hp puck and a 12cm hx40 with a 6 speed.i just want a more trustworthy truck!!

It's defiinately easier on the wallet leaving the stocker in place...
