bellhousing, flywheel, starter, torque converter, all of which I have from my swap. They put the 545 behind the 12v in early 90's bluebird school buses. I've even still got the tranny!

Not to hijack but does anyone have a lot of experience with these transmissions? I was doing a little bit of reading and read that they are not recomended for things like snow plows? Why is this?
Is it more of an "in town" tranny? or would it be ok for multi use such as highway and in town driving?

No one uses them because they suck. Max HP rating of 235 hp. Max tq. of around 450 ft. lbs. No aftermarket parts to strengthen them. Mushy shifts and no OD. pretty much means other than in town med. duty truck use they are not a desirable unit.

In a pickup, the converter will be less mushy, and it'll shift a little more snappy. They will handle more than the 235hp rating, and a couple places make a low stall/more efficient converter, which will deliver more power. There's a guy that used to sled pull with one until they outlawed it, because it wasnt OEM in a pickup. Look up 1stGen545.
Just because it's non overdrive doesnt mean you cant gear it accordingly. That's why I'm going with a 545 in my ford swap. I'm using 3.08 gears, and it'll be pretty decent on the highway. The gears are nicely progressive too. Oh...insulation is your friend! Think gear whine.

I have a complete 545 setup with bellhousing and flex plate with adapter. Ran and drove fine when pulled. Will trade for a core 47rh 4x4.

If you went MT643 you would get a higher HP rating and a locking converter.
You might want to drive a medium duty truck with the 545/mt643 before you decide to install one in a pickup.
